I watch a LOT of different sports whenever I can, including football. Hate to say it Cro but I think ice hockey is actually one of the most boring sports to watch, coming just ahead of baseball (yawn). Hate to say it to you Europeans as well but football is also somewhat boring for me, though less so than hockey. I do enjoy watching the tactics in football, and when a goal does arise it is usually by a brilliant exploitation of a weakness in the other team's structure, but I am with Cro where I just cannot fully enjoy a two hour form of entertainment which only has a handful of intense moments, very few of which end up affecting the outcome of the match.

Moralspain you are right when you say that football does not fit in with American culture and that is why it is not very popular here. I think you hit it right on the head when you commented on our movies. The best selling movies here are those that have intense action scenes and limited complex character development. Since movies are just another form of entertainment I think it is easy to make the step that our culture also prefers in general sports entertainment that is similar to those types of movies.

My favorite sports to watch though are pretty much all over the place when it comes to this "adrenaline-based" characterization: tennis, rugby, curling  , the connection between them is obvious though since they are all highly tactical.

I agree football is boring sometimes, but most of europeans don´t watch football as an entertaiment, we just watch our team matches, there´s a passion for our team, we have arguments with our friends or at work, and some people don´t have dinner if his team has lost that night.
Most of us we don´t watch football because the game,it´s because we feel passion for our team. Here in Spain there´s a rivalry between Real Madrid and FCBarcelona, you are a Madrid supporter or a Barcelona supporter, that´s all.
We don´t go to the stadium to spend the night and if we lose nothing happens, yes it matters and a lot.
I´ve heard, don´t know if it´s true, that for example people go to see a NBA game but also to spend the day, have hot-dogs,soda etc, there are malls in the stadium, so it´s like leisure time, people just go to have fun.
Football, unfortunately,is more than a sport, that´s the reason why there are fights between supporters, too much rivalry

PS:WE ALL AGREE WE LOVE TENNIS, AND IT´S THE SAME TENNIS IN EUROPE, USA OR IN SHEYCHELLES ISLAND

I actually wanted to post something similar this afternoon. Although i can appreciate good football i rarely watch a match just for the hell of it. I was raised with football and i was practically raised with Ajax(no not the cleaning product :P). Therefor my time and devotion went into Ajax. If i see a football match its an Ajax match or Holland match because there i feel something special and it gives you a giant boost when they score.

I can see why someone would find football quite boring. Most teams dont have the skill to display an attacking minded game so they wait around for that 1 chance. But the feeling of winning because of that 1 chance your team scored is just awesome.

Edit: Oh, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic outclasses any of these players. His talent borderlines the impossible.

begin rant

there's no malls in any stadiums that I've been to...I'm sure you can eat Euro-food at a soccer game just like you can get a hot dog at a baseball game...we're kinda crossing the line into 'offensive' territory with the USA cliches. It's not all action movies and hot dogs and we're not all stupid consumer whores. I know soccer is apparently really precious to you guys, but you don't have a monopoly on passion for sporting.

end rant

It's the same all over the world. Most people watch sports to 'pull' for their team. For the most part, the only people who really care about the actual sport are the ones who play it themselves.

And like Jaylove said, I've never seen a mall in a stadium, and I only eat at the games if I'm hungry.

This is not a song anymore, it became way more than that. I know at least three teams singing it at the beginning of everysingle match (Celtics glasgow, Eindhoven (i think or Rotterdam) and of course the reds (Liverpool). You can also hear it in a few rubgy stadiums in Ireland. I have heard alreday a few different version of it so it should exist in Flamenco. If you've heard of it, it must be right. Can't find it yet though.

PS : It was my phone ring for a while :P  :P.

My Favorite player of your list is probably Gerrard but if we are talking of pure talent Zlatan is the one.
After a second thought, all those are just the bests .... hard to choose, Messi and Ronaldo are huge, Ribery is also just awsome since he came back from his injury.
What do you think of Gorcuff by the way????

and one last thing : Barça, mes que un club..... 2-0 Madrid.

Sorry, I was talking about the NBA, and that is what Gasol said in an interview, I don´t live there so all I know about your country is for the media, and as you can understand they always talk about stereotypes and general information, that´s it ,forget it.

Oh my god, I forgot to add Ribery to the list, the next Zidane ( Zizou says that)
Abou Gourcuff, for the videos I,ve seen, reminds me to Cristiano Ronaldo and Zidane ( He makes rouletes like Zinedine) Real Madrid will sign him

No problem really, you didn't personally offend me. I know the image that the US has to the rest of the world. Sorry, I probably overreacted a little.
