Perfect answer.
Seriously, people in the thread were nice enough to explain over and over that there is no special trick, only a lot of small things put together, making detailled explanations of moving, trying to see if the problem wasn't outside the game (PC framerate, controller)... but you keep insisting on "Surely there is a big thing making you move faster !". Well, it doesn't exist, what can we say ?

No, all you did is going in the same direction. The way you move your controller stick and the way he moves his are different. How do I know it ? Because you're slower. Like Djarvik said, before the opponent hits the ball, the character is moving a little thanks to inertia, but Richie's controller stick in center position, his thumb ready to go either left or right. When he moves his thumb, his player immediately reacts, because in TE your player starts running faster when he already has a little speed.
On your side, you are probably moving to the right, with your stick to the right, then immediately go full left. In TE, your character has to stop moving right, reach 0 speed, then starts going left. So of course you're slower than Richie.
That being said, it's hard to have such precise movements. Everybody tells you to train, because that's how every top player became what they are. No awesome trick. Game mechanics to master, yes, like in every game... But even people who master those mechanics have trouble explaining them and have no method to give, because it's totally subconscious.
Usually very patient people here are getting pissed, that should give you a hint : this thread is going in circles.
