Well, after the 4th set I was terrified by Tsonga (I'm a huge Federer fan), remembering Wimbledon.
Then I noticed that, luckily, he wasn't in "touched by Gods of Tennis" mode, but Roger played really bad.
Service didnt work for all the match. But I have to say that in the tie breakers, he elevated the percentage of 1st serves in.
But he could had the match won in 4 sets.
On 1-1 in the 4th, 0-40, 4 break points, you have to capitalize. Ok, Tsonga played fantastic on 3 bp at least, no doubt, credits to Jo. But there was one break point that Rog could play better.
Considering how badly he was serving, probably that break wouln't mean victory for Federer, but you never know, maybe Tsonga would gave up on that.
But in the final set, Roger was more brilliant, and that's a good thing: I think we've seen the best tennis from both players in the 5th.
It's been a not-so-good-to-see match, too much unforced from both side, but it was very intense and close.
With that said, after wasting 4 match points, I was literally scared when Federer served for the match on 5-3. On 30-30, during the rally, I was like in apnoea, holding my breath...
Well done Federer, it's always a good thing when you win playing not at your best, against a tough opponent.
Of course, this level won't be enough against Murray, but if Federer plays like the first rounds, then it could be a great match.
