...maybe not soon anyhow....please have a look at this....if it doesn't make you nervous....well.....it should :(

Factory Farms: What You Need to Know About Minnesota's Anti-Whistleblower Bill

It's only a short article...and some people will inevitably say 'it won't happen - what are you worrying about?'......but it's a strong possibility that it will pass into law....and if it does...well....the whole phrase 'looks like we got ourselves a troublemaker' could take on an entirely new and appalling meaning.....

thoughts?

That this kind of 'legislation' is even being considered....never mind having a chance of being passed is pretty terrifying......if I lived in America, I'd be trying to raise awareness about this....it can't pass into law without sufficient votes....for heaven's sake, tell your friends about this....don't let this kind of thing happen - it can only happen if it's allowed to...... :( :( :( :(

That is one (backwards, isolated, frozen) state out of 50.

Yeah, that's incredibly weird legislation, but to think this is something indicative of how the entire country is, that's just false.

we're all just evil as s**t over here and want to kill as many animals as possible, thats just American's M.O

Well, that's because USA is getting involved everywhere in the world, saying what's wrong in other countries, but the USA is very wrong on some things as well. No offense to any users here, I don't think you're directly involved in the government (at least I hope so  )

Honestly I agree, this just seems to be trying to start a USA bashing thread. This is a completely unneeded thread. We have plenty of backward laws in Europe, but we don't seem to be starting threads bashing them

steady Jay....i wasn't starting a USA-BASHING thread - no need for the defensive reaction at all. This is the THIRD state in the US to attempt to get the ball rolling with regards to introducing this nature of legislation - and your news channels (TV News Channels) don't seem all that terribly bothered about sharing this kind of information - or when/if they do, it's very low on their priority-lists - so it seems to an outsider in any event.

re your remark about local problems - absolutely, we have all kinds of issues - the main difference is the scope and scale though - the fact, like it or lump it, is that when America sneezes, the rest of the world catches cold - you might knock the gung-ho perspective on the head for a couple of minutes (just a wee breather now!) and take stock - sure, we're talking about state-legislation....but historically, these things start low-key and next thing are the norm - whistle-blowing should be encouraged and embraced, especially when the subject involved has such wide-reaching impact.

Why would a state or country even NEED to legislate against people shining a light on what should be a legitimate process?

Oh, and i didn't say/suggest anywhere that this was indicative of the entire country - them's your words man.

Also - as a keen vegetarian I am member of several awareness raising groups - these issues, not just in America but all around the globe come to my attention regularly - so no, I don't just sit about looking for trouble, as it were.

Lol! Got me there Rob - you don't think something like this might merit national coverage though?

Sure, and it has national coverage. But I doubt you're going to see it on any cable news, such as Fox news, because it's not entertaining enough.

I imagine you guys in other countries only receive our cable news channels, but fyi, very few people in the US really consider those channels to be real news. Actually, most people I know don't really get most of their news from TV at all (and certainly not from the Internet) - we get most of our news from newspapers.

If you guys are basing things on what you see on Fox, MSNBC, CNN, etc, then that explains a lot.
