@jayl0ve, my argument is that Federer is not done yet but it would be hard for him to be No.1 again. We have different opinions on Tsonga (at least now), and Murray earns both votes of ours.
We do agree Djokovic is overrated.

Having that said Federer is on his way out on the next 3 years or so , Nadal is too one dimencional and everyone will eventualy figure him out , and the way he plays he is bound to get an injury from the heavy toll on his body , I really doupt he is going to be able to keep playing like he is now into his late 20s .
So it's a tose up between Murray and Simon I think , Djokovic is good but he has a horrible attitude
Simon is like 2-3 years older than Rafa and Murray. Sure, he's a great defender, his groundies are very solid and he seems to be strong mentally. But let's face it, it's pretty tough to get to the top without a real good serve- his serve is mediocre. Also, I'm not too sure about his "killer forehand", I mean he did kill Nadal with that stroke but this was just an extraordinary week for him, everything seemed to work.
I don't know whether he'll be able to maintain that type of aggressive play from the baseline, it's not exactly his nature.
Anyway, props for what he's achieved this year but to me the guy is no future top 3 player, neither a contender at the slams.

I've been a fan of Murray's since pretty much the first time I saw him play. Not sure what you're trying to imply.

That was just a observation not aimed at you, just ive seen it across many internet sports articles and forums.
Also, Djokovic is not over rated, im sorry to have to disagree, his heads in the wrong place at the moment yes, but he has more potential talent than nadal (in my opinion, dont shoot me moralspain ), im not sure about fed ive watched a few of his matches this last week and OOOOOO, it was like watchin him from earlier this year.

I too think that Federer will reach the number 1 spot again but after that it would be possibly Murray, much more than Djokovic, I think Djokovic will never reach nr. 1. About Tsonga, I don't know I like a lot his game but he still didn't convinced me, his run on the Aussie Open was like that, a run, and until now he didn't do that great results. Funny you talk about that guy, Ouana, I saw him playing the other day vs Ljubicic, nice groundstrokes but I think he's too old to be "someone" already. Simon, as someone said, it's too old already and too skinny hehe, Del Potro, it's too one-sided (too much hitting game) and by the way, what the hell are Ancic, Wawrinka or Monfils doing on the list?
I wanted to put 10 names , and they´re young guys, but I really believe that Wawrinka can reach the Top 5 in 1 or 2 years.
jayl0ve wrote:simon has about zero chance of being no. 1, at least for the next few years. Too physically demanding style, lame serve, completely reactive playing style.
Djokovic is almost surely finished- pretty sure we're just going to see him just slowly fade away over the next couple years. Hopefully his annoying family follows him.
Del Potro has been playing great but let's not forget that his magical run this summer started because everybody else (all the top players) were playing in the Olympics. Honestly I don't see somebody 6'6 tall becoming #1 for very long, either.
You could lie to yourself and say that Gulbis has a shot, but I think we all know that's crap until he starts playing somewhere near his 'potential' (barf i hate that word).
Which leaves pretty much Andy Murray and J.W Tsonga.
@picachu- notice that in my first post, I said I still think Federer's going to reclaim the #1 spot. So while I think Murray and Tsonga are the most likely candidates (AT THE MOMENT- who knows who could come along), I do think they have some more growing up and some more winning to do.
AMAZING ZIZOU wrote:Very nice from you Moralspain to propose all those French players (BTW where is Gasquet, the man with the golden arm, when he doesn't forget it in the lockers) but none of them could ever be a strong number 1.
Why??
Because French poeple can't win, that's all, they don't know how do to it. Tsonga is probably the Safin of today, he can't be unresistible, can't play an uncredible level of tennis but unfortunately, his body will never leave him in peace and will never be abble to compete an entire year. As for Monfils, (Ouanna is yet a nobody as Mannarino as well btw and i don't talk of the Chardy's, benneteau... ) and Gasquet, they can't make it cause their mental is crap. As for Simon, i knew him well but who could be honest enough to say he didn't know him before he beats Roger in Indiannapolis?? He's amazing to watch him fight, he's the greatest warrior France has never seen but he's still a bit too light, after a creatine's diet, we'll talk again about it but for now...
Murray is definately the hotest challenger cause is very strong phisically and as someone says ; he believe in himself.
But please guys, Jay says it for centuries and i DO agree, ROger remains the best tennis player ever and if Nadal doesn't make a perfect year like 2008, he lwill get his crown back and will beat all the records (except for sure the one of the 107 tournaments victories of Jimbo)
Greetz
**** Tsonga will win Bercy!!

HAHA!!!
Celle la elle est bonne!!!
That's a good one buddy!!!
Seriously i think Rodgeur can really take his 1st place back even if he seems to be more concerned by the Grand Slams Record of Pete Sampras (what Picachu?...héhé...)...And if (Argh i must admit this!...) Rafa has been really fantastico!!!He made his game change the right way to win Rolland & Wim the same year!...with a very fine game too!!!(with some very nice shots!!!)
For G. Simon i do think he's a bit short too...i feel the same for Gasquet (Get your pyjama off!!!) and Tsonga (the new Safin!!!one of my idol!!!with rios!!héhé...) than Amazin Tsonga...
Let's not forget the young & lefty Jonathan Eysserric (i'm not sure of the spelling...sorry bout that!)
