Tiger Woods: Love Him or Hate him?

Postby Cro Morgan » Tue, 15 Apr 2008 04:55

As the world's best golfer he has been compared to Roger Federer - with regard to his sheer dominance of his sport. So, just curious, do you support Tiger Woods (i.e. hopes he wins when he plays) or do you cheer for everyone but Tiger (as you might cheer against Federer).

Picked the last one. Don't watch golf, so can't assess his success, although I always hear that he's the best and although I love(d) playing Tiger Woods PGA Tour on PC 8)

For most strange that it may sound I actually like to play but I can't stand to watch it either play it on PC or anyother console. Just sometimes Mini Golf on Miniclip or on the i-Pod.

I personally like Tiger Woods but root against him - as I do Federer - because they win all the damn time. Well, Federer used to win all the time, not anymore.

Odd that the majority don't even follow golf. I thought golf and tennis walked hand-in-hand. Maybe it's only an American rich people hobby thing. :)

the thing about that is...

tennis is fast, furious, exciting, played by teenagers and young guys who are athletic and in shape.

golf is just lame. it is played (on most part) by older, fat men. Add some excitment to the sport and then MAYBE I'd watch.

Unlike football or soccer, golf and tennis aren't team sports or "mass" sports, which are popular among the majority of people. As already mentioned, golf is said to be a sport for rich persons only. Therefore, mabye, not anyone likes it.

Day of answering to your posts berg, this is the 3rd. But I just had a question, isn't football and soccer the same thing? In Europe we say football, in America they sat soccer to split it and avoid confusing with the American Football (that sport similar to Rugby but even for someone with more animal instincts). What were you reffering to? :o

Football in America (that one similar to Rugby), because it's the most popular sport in the US, I suppose.

And soccer as, yeah, soccer here in Europe, because it's the most popular sport here.

Just wanted to mention "mass" sports which apply to both the US and Europe.

I cheer against Roger, but for some reason I always want Tiger Woods to win. Perhaps it is the enthusiasm and killer instinct with which he usually tries to play, something most golfers can't quite seem to master and still hit the ball well.

I've played golf since I was very young and Tiger's been my favorite golfer for a long time....in fact, he learned the game at the same public course where I was enrolled in the junior golf program (Heartwell Par 3 in Long Beach CA). It's their one claim to fame.

I think beyond learning there he surely learnt a lot from a mystic, kind of god identity.

He definitely plays god-like golf. To me, he's the best golfer to ever live. Few people who crush their drives like he can, have the kind of brilliant short game that he does. Not only that, but he's done more for golf's popularity than most people even realize...it really WAS basically an all-white sport before he came along.

I like the Ryder Cup but that is the only exciting part of golf. The rest bores me.

Golf can be a little boring to watch on TV, but really some of the best times I've had have been on a golf course with my friends.
