How do you give players stats? And do they get an update?

Postby amgmm » Sat, 15 Jul 2017 21:16

Hi ITST,

I see Federer has a low Backhand stat, while now his backhand is a fierce weapon just as his forehand. His game overall has gotten way better than before. Will his stat get updated?

Thanks

I don't know who makes these stats, but some players have completely random values to be honest.
Thiem for example hits both the hardest forehand and backhand on average on the tour, yet has only like 83 power on both. He also only has 30 topspin for whatever reason despite hitting with only slightly fewer RPM than Nadal in real life. I don't know if this was done for balancing reasons, but those stats seem quite frankly completely off.

The questions is interesting... but it has perhaps been answered 20 times in 5 years ! The answer is very easy !

ITST mod is about imitating (and not reproducing) the real life players only to guarantee a BALANCED competition and to generate interesting match ups, game plans or tactics with a weakness to exploit for each character.

If you make Federer as great as he is nowadays, you would have a Wimbledon full of Federer vs Federer matchups. 90 Federer in the draw because everyone would maximize his chances to win... It would be completely boring to play, useless and at the end it would destroy the whole tour.

So indeed, you lose a bit of realism, but only to make the matches more tactical, the draws more variated etc...

At the end of the day, the character is a bit like a racket : you need to chose it well, but it won't make you win per se. The top players can win with any characters. You can be competitive with Dustin Brown, Gasquet, Paire, Tsonga, Querrey, Cilic, Klizan (Pidzi won RG with Klizan!) which is awesome. And when you change your character, you renew the experience.

To conclude, let's keep in mind the ITST team knows exactly what are the strengths and weaknesses of every players of the top 100. Now maybe you can suggest stats updates for characters, but keep the balance aspect in mind, it's the criteria n°1

That obviously makes sense, but it has to be said that stats of players like Thiem seem completely random compared to their playstyles in real life. Why does the guy with the by far highest average FH speed at RG only have 83 FH power when even Murray has 84? Why does he have 82 counter? That's way too high for him. Why is his BH stronger than his FH when he does all of his work with the FH irl? Why does Nadal have 30 more topspin when Thiem only hits with marginally less RPM?
Thiem in ITST plays nothing like Thiem irl, and that's my concern here.
