Wimbledon 2017

The third slam of the season has just begun! Vote for whom you think will win.

Singles Draw

After TheBoss-94 won his first slam and claimed the number one ranking, it will be a different role he has to fulfill. I see him reaching the SF, where I expect him to face mohd954 or kenos (go kenos!). A bigger hitter can trouble him more, so kenos could pose a threat here.

The lower half features more depth, I think. inseedious, isaldor, Pablo Hernandez, mignogna, eloymm, Filas, Andry, leonmonstroso, nutmegdinosaur -- good match-ups possible! I expect a SF between the veterans isaldor and inseedious, but tricky opponents await them before.

Good luck everyone!

I think TheBoss wins again. If he keeps the rhythm and excitement of being a GS champion, it will be difficult to defeat him.

Big chances to have TheBoss and Inseedious in the final. They are the favorites for the title.

I voted for TheBoss-94. Isaldor has a very big chance, too, but I don't know his current level.

I'm glad some of you are voting for me, but I don't know if my level will be high enough to compete with players who have played lots of tourneys this year. Of course, I'll do my best, since giving "bad shows" is not an option for me.

Isaldor has never reached a grand slam semi-final, he will retire before, he has no mental
Pablo Hernandez with Tsonga can raise issues to Inseedious... I think this will be an italian tournament, I see Kenos-The Boss in SF, perhaps Boss-Inseedious in final ?

Here's a slightly darker and more greenish version of grass court. I made it because grass courts are bright and make my eyes hurt after long rallies. I hope it helps - you can still adjust the color if you want, it's very easy.

Cocluding my Wimbledon I reached a career best of 4R. I throughout the championship was not feeling confident or as motivated as I was during the clay and also beginning of the grass court Season. It could be for various factors maybe I played to many matches in short spam of time making me a bit saturated of the game, lack of match practice ,maybe it was character picking should have went with gulbis or even with Wawrinka as they most likely would have suited me more.

So First match vs Mibon playing it automatic as he is from India so it was hard for me to play in those conditions as to hit the ball seems impossible at least for me in those situations. I somehow didn't drop a single game when I should of had at least a couple of those.

Second match was Vs Nutmeg who I had never beaten before so I was doubtful I would be able to beat him. First few games we broke each other and no one held serve till 5-6 game of the set. I got a crucial break and was able to seal at 6-3. Second set he had a break of serve early and left me frustrated and I couldn't find my serve consistency or even spots along with great returning deep counters on return and baseline rallys, I somehow was able to bounce back after he failed to serve for the set out and won 4 consecutive games from 5-3 to seal the second at 7-5. Third set was similar he broke me first with great returns and I was struggling but was able to break straight back and when he was serving to stay in the match I was able to break him and get the win. I did not feel happy with the performance despite having more winners than UE I felt I needed to improve significantly to achieve a higher level to compete further along the tournament, but credit to nutmeg for playing well and leaving me in the back foot throughout the match.

Fourth round match proved to be my last one as Eloymm who I had beaten previously in the grass season decided he was going to play his best tennis out of all players against me to beat me in 4 sets (3 win in the last 4 Grand slam vs me). First set I started well with my gameplan making points short by coming to the net taking it as early as possible and had bp chances but could not convert them. Surprisingly I lost my serve straight after and went on to lose the next few games and at 5-2 he had a double break broke him back held serve but could not complete comeback unfortunately he won the set 6-4. Second set I broke early was in control at 4-2 but then he guessed some of my shots and he broke me and I had a meltdown including punching my leg in frustration giving me a sore leg until the rest of the match and lost the set again 6-4. Third set he broke me again but I was able to bounce back with a break of my own, and struggled to hold serve but I somehow did and was able to break to win the third set. So fourth set you would think momentum would be in my side but that was not the case as he broke me twice to go for a 4-1 lead I broke him back held serve had bp at 4-3 didn't convert so found myself in a situation to stay in the match. At 5-3 he had mp on my serve and I somehow found my way through it and at his serve I had break points which I converted my best return game of the match we held serve from then onwards and it was tie-break time. Both held serve for the first few points but then eloymm took control of the set and won it sealing a 4 set win. Congrats to eloymm for a great performance, he deserved it wanted more played better and was more focused total praise to him.

Regarding myself I think I need to motivate myself further to improve in any manner, along with movement, defence if I ever want to be a better player or be amongst the best. But I am looking forward to Flushing Meadows hopefully I can reach my first GS QF.

Anyway congrats to all players, and good luck for everyone else at the rest of the tournament.

I've made it! Thanks to all the guys who trusted in me and supported me throughout the tournament - among others, Mohd who was my sparring partner. I'm very happy, not only for the title itself, but also for the mental and technical level I've reached without even training that much.

The real challenge started in the SF where I faced Isaldor, who I was afraid of especially because I know how well he can use Wawrinka. Indeed, his accelerations and defenses were incredibly deep and powerful, often denying me to play the offensive game I played and trained for before. Hopefully, I was cinic during the most important points and, in the second half of the match, released from the pressure, I managed to attack more and play a better tennis. At the end of the match, I was impressed by how severe the score appeared, despite a very good fight full of tied rallies and games that could have gone both ways.

As concerns the final, at first I'd like to congratulate TheBoss-94 for the incredible level he showed. During the match, I kind of felt like "He's better than me, I'd be very happy to pass him the 'torch' as next Italian captain if I lose". He was defending way better than me, and incredibly managed to return on the baseline most of my serves and attacks. Despite me having a slightly better attacking game, he hit more winners because he basically reached every attack of mine, so most of my "winners" actually were TheBoss's desperate defenses going under the net. On the other hand, I had a more advanced positioning and this let him hit more clear winners.
After the general stamina - and so, the ability to hit more winners than errors - had gone, it soon became a backhand to backhand fight, and the one who could hit deeper or down the line was more likely to win the point, as winners/errors and rally length stats show. On the one hand, he could punish my advanced positioning with lethal deep counters and a very good net play. On the other, I was more able to push him behind the baseline and so could punish his positioning with many dropshots that almost always bounced twice. These were our two main weapons.
The real keys have been, again, my experience and my cinism in most important points.

Admittedly, my two previous slams have been harder draw-wise - Richie, Pidzi and VMoe played at RG 2016; Pidzi, Vramvrim and VMoe played at AO 2017. But I left London with the awareness of my mental level still improving over the years. What I'm proud the most of has been beating two real top players, winning 6 out of 7 sets that could have gone both ways since our levels were almost identical.
