Grand Slam Titles of the greatest players (in colours)

Postby Saarbrigga » Sat, 17 Dec 2016 17:46

Thread title sounds maybe funny  , but it did this in an other forum and the ppl liked it.
It s to compare the Grand Slam titles of the greatest players in colours:

Australian Open = light blue
French Open = red
Wimbledon = green
US Open = dark blue

( ) = how many times the player reached the final overall.

Djokovic 6(6) - 3(4) - 2(7) - 1(4) = 12 Titles
Nadal 11(11) - 3(4) - 2(5) - 1(4) = 17 Titles
Borg 6(6) - 5(6) - 0(4) - 0(0) = 11 Titles
*Laver 4(6) - 3(4) - 2(4) - 2(3) = 11 Titles
Sampras 7(7) - 5(8) - 2(3) - 0(0) = 14 Titles
Federer 8(11) - 6(7) - 5(7) - 1(5) = 20 Titles

*Between 1963 and 1968 only amateur players were allowed to play the 4 Grand Slam Tournaments. Since Laver was a professional and not an amateur player, he played in those years the so called Pro Slam Tournamtens, which were French Pro (like French Open), Wembley Pro (like Wimbledon) and US Pro (like US Open), the Australian Open did not have a tournament for professionals at that time.
Laver won 4 Wembley Pro, 3 US Pro and 1 French Pro.
The Pro Slam tournaments were and still count as Major Title exactly like Grand Slam.

Overall Major Titles:
Federer: 20
Laver: 19 (11 Grand Slams, 8 Pro Slams)
Nadal: 16
Sampras: 14
Djokovic: 12
Borg: 11

Evert 7(8) - 6(9) - 3(10) - 2(6) = 18 Titles
Navratilova 9(12) - 4(8) - 3(6) - 2(6) = 18 Titles
Court-Smith 11(12) - 5(6) - 5(6) - 3(5) = 24 Titles
S. Williams 7(9) - 7(8) - 6(8) - 3(4) = 23 Titles
Graf 7(9) - 6(9) - 5(8) - 4(5) = 22 Titles

Overall Major Titles:
Court-Smith: 24
S. Williams: 23
Graf: 22
Evert/Navratilova: 18

Federer is going to get destroyed. I feel it. His mental block against Nadal will come to the fore unless he decides to just **** it and take all the risks. Not even Dimitrov coudl beat Nadal and he movement is currently infinitely superior to Fed's.

I'm really surprised. Fed has just rolled back the years. The most aggressive, and risky, performance he has played against Nadal in a slam for a decade. Wonder if he'll finally overcome the mental block?

Absolutely brilliant from Fed, turned on God mode juat before it was too late. His backhand is better than ever... Maybe a few tips from Stan?

Federer hit his purple patches at just the right moments. Started strongly, preserved brain energy for a set, upped his game again, became more reserved for a set and a bit, then turned it on right at the end. Amazing.

That's the best he has hit his backhand for nearly a decade, for sure. Serve wasn't great, but his forehand was on fire so it didn't matter too much.

I think he would be better off skipping the whole clay season and just focus on wimby :D

It's times like this I wish Top Spin 5 existed. Hell anything at this point.

You have the greatest game ever made available (Tennis elbow 2013). As for Federer, djarvik you were WRONG.
(You'll be wrong about GS as well)

Can't delete anymore

Although to be fair I was also expecting Nadal to win in 5. He was up a break in the 5th and then lost 5 games in a row.

So the top dogs have expanded their Grand Slam haul, Fed now at 18 and Serena at 23.

I have tried tennis elbow, and I don't know... Something about the game I just don't like. Probably the control system. Some hybrid of TS3 and 4 or even a polished up patched TS3...... Please 2k!

I did update the thing including overall final appearances.

What do u think about Serena and Steffi? Yes Serena has now 23...but Graf s 7 Wimbledon and 6 French Open are damn good cause it was so different there back then...

What the hell did Chris Evert in Wimbledon??? Reached the final 10 times an just winning 3.

Evert only won 3 because I'm pretty sure she played Navratilova in them all... They played 9 Wimbledon finals against each other and Evert won 2.

Which is why I think Evert or Navratilova are the greatest. Though if Serena can win a few more then yeah, she can be considered the Greatest. Both of the former are on 18, and were up against each other in their primes. Serena has had no 'great' rival since 2009, in which time she has won 12 slams out of a possible 29, and no-one else has won more than 2, except Clijsters who promptly retired. Interestingly, Clijsters won the only meeting between the two during the 2-3 years she 'unretired'.

How can you put Evert and Navratilova over Graf?

Sorry makes no sense to me. Even if Evert stated now Serena is the famale GOAT, until 3-4 years ago she and Navratilova both stated Graf > Evert/Navratilova. not just seen here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/100_Greatest_of_All_Time

I can find arguments now to put Serena ahead of Steffi, but don t see any argument to put Chris and Martina over her.

Graf:
7 Wimbledon
6 French Open
5 US Open
4 Australian Open

Evert was superior on clay, Navratilova on grass, but outside the French Open and Wimbledon their records/titles etc. are not even close to Graf.
