Honestly, I think Nadal has lost his confidence after losing to Wawrinka at AO.
Since then he has just went down hill, We all thought that Federer could win
Grand slams non stop but i don't think it's human to be no.1 forever.
Vamos Rafa! 9 Time Roland Garros Champion

Just read how he lost the final set vs Almagro in a manner completely atypical of him.

First Nadal is a break ahead 3-1, then he loses 3 games in a row, breaks back, then loses his serve again. Almagro serves for match and Nadal cannot convert 2 break points, so he loses the game, set and match.

I am really curious what happens at the clay Masters and RG of course.

I think it's just a bad period; more than Wawrinka, I think the defeat against Djokovic at Miami (very sharp and clear) made him lose some confidence and motivation. But these are just my speculations. I woudn't worry too much. It's not the first time he seemed broken and he managed to come back stronger.

Physical matters.
He just needs time to get in good shape, but I'm still sure he will win 2 out of the next "Big 3" on clay (Madrid, Rome, RG), at least.

I think his loss against Wawrinka at the AO made him realize that no Top 10 player is a walkover anymore.

Which makes the rest of the season more exciting actually.

I completely agree. Injured or not, that loss in THE FINAL really hurt Rafas "reputation". He no longer perceived as this untouchable force that you pray to win a set or two from. But what hurts the most is that he himself doesn't feel invincible anymore, for the time being.

That could last a while, but knowing Rafa, if anyone could turn this around - it is him. Still holding the #1 position.
Level 13 Edberg and counting...

That was the first Major final that Rafa lost against an opponent different from Federer or Djokovic.

Mental, that's what he said after losing against Ferrer in Montecarlo
Never underestimate the pain of a person, because in all honesty, everyone is struggling. Some people are just better at hiding it than others.

I agree with what you all said. Actually his defeat in Barcelona is pretty relevant I think. He lost against Almagro, who never beat him, and how ? After having easily won the first set, well... I didn't see the second one, maybe Almagro just played way better. But the third set ? I mean Nadal got a break first, Almagro managed to break back nobody knows how, then he even got a break himself. Nadal breaks back to come back to 4-4 but finally Almagro breaks again !

And all that, as I said, against a player who never won against Nadal in his life. And c'mon, I mean...on clay ! To my mind, it really shows that the issue is purely mental. His physical strength is still the best, he was in good form in Miami.

I solenelly write my prediction here for RG. Last year I said Tsonga, he reached semi final and was actually not that far ( :D ). For 2014, I see Nishikori winning Roland Garros (or... Wawrinka, as he's somehow the successor of Kuerten in my mind).

About Tsonga, last year I said he would beat Federer but lose to Ferrer in the SF...oh wait, that's what happened ^^

But to be honest, I have absolutely no idea of what could happen this year. Even considering Nadal's form, it's always difficult not to say he's a favorite since he lost only once (with a knee problem...), and we all know he's the most surprising player mentally speaking.

However, if I had to pick someone else, hmm... you know what, I'll wait to see what happen in Madrid. There's still a big question mark on Djokovic after Monte-Carlo !
