Davis Cup Info/Rules

Welcome to the ITST Davis Cup! The best players of each country will battle it out to see which nation is best!

Teams

  • Each Davis Cup team consists of min. 3 players and max. 5 players with 1 team captain.
  • If your country does not have 3 players then you can form a team with players of neighboring countries or with players having the same citizenship as yours. You then have to decide which country you will represent.
  • If your country has more than 5 players then you have to make a team of 5 players first before you can start a second team for your country.
  • For each encounter 3 players are selected as Player A, Player B, Player C and the team selection can be changed (in special cases it has to be changed, see below for rules) for each encounter, the captain is fixed so he'll manage his team throughout the Cup.
  • To sign up the captain of a country must post in The Davis Cup Registration Thread with his team for the whole cup. If you want to be a captain you must discuss this with your fellow countrymates. We do not make the decision who's captain of a country!

Format

The Davis Cup will be a knockout tournament. A maximum of 16 countries can enter. When your country loses an encounter they're out of the Cup. When the draw's made the home country can decide on what court the encounter will be played. An encounter will consist of 4 singles matches played by the best of 5 principle and a doubles match (Master 8 CPU four Doubles partner). When a country has won 3 matches the remaining rubbers will be best of 3 sets and all team members (also those different from Player A, Player B and Player C) can be used for the remaining rubbers. The deciding set is without tie break.

The format of the encounter will be:

Match #1: Player B vs Player A
Match #2: Player A vs Player B
Match #3 (doubles): Player C vs Player C
Match #4: Player A vs Player A
Match #5: Player B vs Player B

Note that all matches should be played in this order. So the first match will be Player B of the home team versus Player A of the away team.

Rules

  • Your country is only allowed to use characters in ITST Mod from that country. If none are available, then you can select characters from one neighboring country for which ITST Mod has characters.
  • For each encounter the captain selects Player A (singles), Player B (singles) and Player C (doubles).
  • The characters used for the matches have to be specified beforehand. Player A and Player B can choose different characters for Match #4 respectively Match #5 if there are enough characters available for their country. They can change the characters after Doubles Match has been played and have to announce before Match #4 or Match #5 the changes.
  • If a team has 4 respectively 5 players, then you have to change 1 player respectively 2 players in consecutive rounds.

Example for last rule: France #1 has Richie, Vramvrim, C4iLL, isaldor and Sorauze. In first round, Richie, C4iLL and isaldor play as Player A, Player B and Player C. In the second round, Vramvrim and Sorauze have to be used, say Vramvrim, Sorauze and isaldor play 2nd round. In 3rd round then Richie and C4iLL have to be used again etc. It gives the captain a tactical choice, where he has to think about future opponents and so on. Also balances teams out and everyone in a team will also play unless they are defeated in 1st round.

Schedule

If there are 9 to 16 teams: First round after AO, QF after Wimbledon, SF after US Open and F after WTF.

If there are at most 8 teams: QF after AO, SF after Wimbledon and F after US Open.

I would add a rule like this: "It's not possible to have all the best seeded players in a second team". Without this rule, France can create a team like France #2 composed by Richie, Vramvrim and Florian. This is just an example to show the possible exploits of the rulement.

New rule:

The characters used for the matches have to be specified beforehand. Player A and Player B can choose different characters for Match #4 respectively Match #5 if there are enough characters available for their country. They can change the characters after Doubles Match has been played and have to announce before Match #4 or Match #5 the changes.
