XFD

And again Federer fails to set up a US Open clash vs Nadal.

Is he doing that on purpose? I mean those two Nole semis where he had double match points and now Scarfbredo.

BTW Bredo is 1-10 vs Fed now :D

Us open courts are cursed

They won't allow fed-rafa to play against each other.. Seriously I don't understand he loses to a guy whom he has defeated 10 times and lost only 3 sets in those matches.. How come roberedo was returning every ball Back is beyond me.. The 2/16 bp chances for federer says it all.. It was the same as roland garros 2007 final against nadal.. I mean c'mon it's roberdo not nadal.. How can he do this

Now I understand what Federer meant with transition year in 2013: Transition into journeyman and then retirement.

He'll just try to end 2013 without losing too much in the WTF. It's probably hard to defend lots of points when losing confidence. Btw he s lucky many players around rank 9-16 had a great time earlier this season but not for too long (Haas, Raonic, Gasquet, Wawrinka) instead of two very solid players maintaining QF most of the tournies, that way you have many players around 1800-2400 points at the Race, instead of Fed already chasing another guy at 3000points.

everything comes to an end, sad but true

Haven't watched Gasquet vs Raonic, very glad he won vs that disgusting player btw, I wish him to reach WTF but as usual Tsonga who is already ahead of him and Waw without earning decent points since RG will just need a couple M1000 QFs and 250 wins or F to get rid of them. They never perform well indoors anyway, or when pressurized to take the last spot for O2.

Btw is it me or Gasquet seems to be one of the slowest players for his mensurations ? Usual left right bashing does the job, reason why Ferrer never has trouble defeating him.

Gasquet usually lacks the patience to trouble a player like Ferrer who heavily relies on speed, stamina and opponent UE's. And having a great OHBH or not, it's not a shot that can dictate a game like a booming serve or a great forehand with its anatomical advantages which will always produce a higher power and accuracy, the extra touch needed to win points. Furthermore, Gasquet's BH is not a good "blocker" as in turning defense into offense, something that only a strong DHBH like Nole's or Murray's shot could do.

Interesting observation: Kohlschreiber beat Isner in the 3rd round just like last year and Ferrer beat Tipsarevic in the 4th round unlike last year due to Tipsarevic's lower ranking compared to 2012 :)

Interesting observation 2: Despite losing a set, Nadal has yet to be broken in this tournament. I don't remember any male player ever winning a Slam without ever getting broken.

Gasquet's problem is he stands 70 feet behind the baseline to hit groundstrokes that land in the service box.

Don't know what his logic is with that, besides the fact that he needs 10 seconds to wind up his BH.

Me too. Especially after the match in Cinci where he played really good for most of the match when no one thought it would be a competitive match. Then his form (especially his serve) looked really good in the first 3 rounds, I didn't and still don't see how he lost to TR of all people. I think he'll bounce back and have a decent season next year though. He won't be hanging it up anytime soon.

Yeah, his backhand needs a huge swing to be effective. When it comes under pressure against a player like Nole who can consistently produce strong shots that land near the baseline, Gasquet will be in trouble.

It's good to be No. 1. Serena and Nole with double bagels.
