Playing in 2d or 3d mode and related aspects

Postby Marco_Theo_81 » Fri, 30 Nov 2012 13:21

great reports, very exiting to read and to improve my english too... :)

Just a question, I see the uploaded pics, the most of you champs are playing in 3d courts.
Not the beautiful photo scans in 2d.

May I ask why? It's not so nice to see for the eyes, but maybe you can play the matches more successful in 3d?

I will try it offline vs. the cpu. Curious to see maybe a difference in play depth.

nice weekend & still good luck to everyone in the finals.
C4Ill, next year with a new try! Like Elio too.

Ugadalou καλή τύχη! against the nr.1 in your decisive match!

ciao

There are two aspects: First, you have always the same camera angle, no matter which court you choose. Second, you can judge depth and height of a shot better in 3d mode (at least I can, but that again depends on the camera angle). Once I switched to 3d mode I started playing better (US Open I played the first time a tournament in 3d mode; even though I lost there early, my level in out-of-competition matches was better).

EDIT: So far I have always used the default camera view, but I experimented a bit with other heights and (logically) you can get better feeling for height/depth this way.

Hi Marco!
To second VMoe, I had been using 2D mode for a very long time (I think I changed right before Basel/Valencia) because I liked the HD,real-court feeling and also for less cpu consumption, as the game is much lighter on 2D mode.

The problem is that all courts have a different angle and many smaller tournaments had low quality photos which made it even more frustrating to play.
I noticed that the higher the view of the court was, the faster the game felt resulting in being aced a lot and not getting to the balls in time (that's the reason why many players complained about Paris and O2 Arena being so slow, because the camera is low and wide - the opposite effect).

It was in a practice match with Ary if I'm not mistaken in Basel court when I was shocked. In a single set I got aced like 20 times and all the balls were flying around like crazy!I thought I was playing against Sampras!
It was then, after his suggestion, that I tried to play in 3D and when I adjusted the cam to my preferences, it was immediately easier.Everything was so much slower. The serves, strokes were suddenly like in slow-motion compared to high 2D angles and because of the added depth dimension I could also get a better understanding of where the ball would land.

I still think with 2D the game looks a lot better but it's very hard every week having to adjust to a different camera.

If we make an advertising video for the tour in the end of the year with the best points of the season,I strongly suggest the points are displayed in 2D!3D courts are much more sterile, without character.I get the feeling it's always the same court with differences only in colours and ad banners.

Thx for these answers, I will try.

Seems logical, so you can become accustomed on every court with the same camera angle. Without adjusting every time.

I play in 2D camera but i noticed that in 2D some courts as Bnp Paribas and O2 london Arena are too slow in 2D, Incredible slow! So Elias told me that it is due to camera and to try for those 2 courts to play in 3D. I tried it and in 2 seconds i realized that in 3D the 2 courts are very fast ad an hard indoor court should be and in this tournaments played in 3D.

Maybe it's offtopic to continue this discussion here, perhaps a mod could separate the topics, but what do you guys think on altering the ball size?
I've noticed from some uploaded videos that some people size the tennis ball up so that they can see it better (turned it to abnormal size like a melon!).Do you believe this could work in advantage or disadvantage for them? When sized up is the virtual trace of the ball landing on the racquet sweetspot the same as normal size or changes?

I thougt to myself.... Hei, did I write soemthing bad, that my question was deleted?

But just moved. :)

I played my first match in 3D against Dakra, the report I will post soon.
I felt great with this 3D setting. Ok, in 2D with all this photo scans TE looks way better, but this don't disturb
to the gameplay. The opposite came, I felt surer in my movements. Will keep this 3D setting, will see, if the improvement is strong noticeable. Another plus point is, that the camera is always the same, on every court.

About the melon balls, I have entered too a bigger ball in the settings. But I think not like a melon, more like a grapefruit.
I feel surer, when I return. Nothing remarquable with the raquets sweetspot for the moment.

Wish me luck for my first final.... in a Future.... 8)

3D is lightning fast for O2 arena and paris. I played a 3 setter today and got aced like 10 times in the first set (normally I am not a bad returner). I changed to 2D in set 2 and 3 and was hardly aced. I think lateral movement is easier in 2D but forward and backward movement is not easy, chasing short angles, drop shots and making passing shots is very tuff (specially O2 arena). That being said, 2D is more fun compared to 3D so I use 2D most of the times :c
