Defensive against Powerplayers

Postby Daxter1975 » Sat, 06 Oct 2012 09:59

Is it possible to play with an defender against >90 Powerplayers?

And what i have to do?

When i play with any Setup against an Powerplayer (like Gallo, Babb, Rabary) i think it´s impossible to play the balls only back. With good speed, it´s impossible to run to the shots, and if you have good wings, but plays one (!) ball not perfect it´s over.

I there an Setup, that can win against those Players?

And what i must do, to defend against their shots?

if u wanna beat 'em with this states u gotta play 99.99% of ur control shot with perfect timing
and 60 to 70% of ur shots play it with top spin,,flat s not that effective with ur state,,play flat when u r controlling the pt.
top spin s the most confusing shot to these players

I played against several certified 100% power abusers on the WT and 99% of 'em suck harder than a hooker in a men's locker room. It's powershot after powershot after powershot and usually as far behind the baseline as the game will let 'em.
The key is to make them move as much as possible. Use deep topspin shots, short slices, short crosses anything to make them run (which those powersetups are really good at  ) and when you see an opening hit a powershot or a perfectly timed flat controlshot. You'll get aced a couple of times but try to get as many serves back as possible with a deep topspin shot, preferably crosscourt
See if you can find Moreau on the WT. He is a textbook power abuser. Or some guy from New Zealand playing with a Babb setup.
So funny when they keep trying to hit through you when it clearly isn't working.........

The Joke is, that they have 43er speed, but are soo hard outplaying.
And they run 3 set´s without stamina and fireing their powershots. incredible.

And when you have 100 speed, it´s impossible to run to the shots.

I don´t know, why 2K doesn´t patch the game and balance it.

I mean... S&V didn´t skilles Stamina.... i must ask if the programmers have seen 1 Tennismatch before make this game...

I think, if a 100 power player meets a really good defensive player (Samala or Welch as coaches, mostly), he has a few chances to win.
Unless he is also very good timing the ball perfectly (timing is important for power players too).

For sure, if two great "opposite" players face each others in WT, it's gonna be a fantastic match. Without using cheesy tactics/shots, of course.

Anyway brutal power is useless agains great difenders. You must use street corners with top spin, to open the court or to accelerate, before hitting the definitive winner.
And you have to vary serve: directions, speed, rotation (kick, slice), angle (street or wide).

If you play like a bulldozer without ideas against a great defender, you're gonna lose for sure.
But it's not impossible to defeat a player like this, in my opinion (unless he is wefan  ).

Uhm, in my opinion it's better to return with a slice. When the ball comes back slow, without power and close to the court, it's more difficult for a power player to hit a strong acceleration.
In fact, after they served, almost all of them start pushing X button without waiting the return.

So if it comes back with a top spin, it must be really really deep, as much as possible close to de baseline, so they'll have to move back to hit the ball in an uncomfortable position, which means they won't able to accelerate at maximum power.
But it's really hard doing this with a good server (even with Gallo as coach).

Slice return can give you more time to recover position, and will get the opponent in trouble the same.
