What decade of Tennis was the best to be a tennis fan? Each decade has it's great rivalrys, each decade has it's own style and characters and a healthy pool of Talent. There is many pros and cons of each and I know there is many that grew up during the 90s watching epic matches between Sampras Aggassi n Becker n so on. The 80s had its good points but was the 70s the best decade ever?

Same here 2000s.. Never watched a live match of 90s tennis.. I was 6 years old in 1999 lol..

Perhaps the old Grandpas of ITST like djarvik and Rob can compare 80s-90s tennis with current era

The period between Sampras losing his grip and Federer's rise to power was pretty awful imo. Lots of One Slam wonders and short stints at No. 1, overall a crapfest. Federer-Nadal rivalry is my favourite but I also liked Lendl vs anyone.

90s was great, good balance between power and talent, baseliners like Agassi facing great net players like Sampras
Never underestimate the pain of a person, because in all honesty, everyone is struggling. Some people are just better at hiding it than others.

I was so happy that i managed to catch a glimpse of some of the greatest S&V players of the late 90's early '00 even though i was a 7 year old. Rafter, Krajicek, Sampras, Henman eo. It was really fun to watch them play at their best and it's so sad that their playstyle is dying (coroner is on stand-by).

Only a few of those guys left now: Llodra, Stepanek, Lopez and a few others i can't think of right now. It's kind of fitting that none of the top ITST players have a S&V playstyle....

Now the S&V players are Llodra, Mahut, Ram, Gilles Muller, Stepanek, Karlovic, Lopez and Federer at Wimbeldon.

tsonga is puncher, fish is maybe something between S&V and puncher, but not S&V and I never watched match of stakhovsky.

Theres a lot of younger guys using more net play these days. Raonic, Sock, Johnson all played well while coming in a lot. Not pure sv, but way more than most other players. Sv every time isn't feasible anymore, too many good returners will burn you if they know exactly what's coming.

There hasn't been a successful player who mainly relied on coming to the net to finish a point for a long time. Basically no one after Sampras and even Pete would stay at the baseline often enough after serve. Mahut is one of the old school volleyers who come at the net even on 2nd serves.

Some contemporary players are just better at the net than others (Tsonga, Federer) but would only incooperate S&V to mix up their game.
