Best FH Federer is a solid choice.

Best overall player Federer is a given. No apparent weakness.

You could also make a case for best one-handed backhand in his prime but there are other players who seem to have equal or better OHB's (Wawrinka, Almagro, Gasquet).

Lendl had some specialties I would single out. He certainly had the best OHB during his time but this standout shot was the running passing shot with the forehand which naturally came into heavy use with so many top S&V players around. And mentally he was also at the top, much like Nole is today.

Just an example against Delpo, having 3 set points at 5-6 and not being able to convert them but playing a strong tie break right afterwards. That's mental :) Compare to Cilic's epic meltdown but then Cilic has no business to be in a Slam QF, much less SF.

Where is Nadal? That's right he's killing his career because of the way he plays. Nadal is finished.

Nadal utilizes his body too much.. He needs to change his game to a more offensive style now instead of playing always on defense.. We can't expect him to run all over the court when he reaches the age of 30.. He needs to serve big and finish the points early instead of just running from left to right all the match.

Yeah...In my opinion it's the best forehand ever..not the most powerfull but the most complete, versatile; he's very precise with it, can throw big top-spins but also flat shots..he's able to hit a good forehand in any corner of the court. Until a few years ago it was unplayable...now it gets overpowered sometimes but it's still one the most avoided shots in tennis by his opponents

He did became more aggressive over the years but it just can't become a player like Djokovic or Federer..you cannot do such big changes at this age

Depends on how you define a backhand.

In kinds of playing 10, 20 or more great shots without doing unforced errors with top spin or flat, i guess Guga had the best single handed backhand ever.
But he could not hit a slice with it...one of the worsest slices i ve ever seen.

Federer has a fantastic slice, i would say maybe the best or definately among the best slice backhands, even better than Pete s.

So let s say:

Topspin/Flat: Guga
Slice: Federer, Sampras, Edberg

Ken Rosewalt also had an amazing single handed backhand. Maybe almost the best...slice close to Federer, flat close to Guga.

Steffi had the best sliced backhand! But she would play it like 95% of the time and would only play a topspin as a passing shot so it was fairly predictable and not used offensively.

I don't really care about players pre-open era, none of them compare in terms of fitness, power and equipment.
