See, I'm a weird metal fan. I dislike that as well, though I don't mind a good blast beat here and there. What makes me weird though, is that I dislike screamed or growled vocals. Obviously not the principle, because there are a few bands I can live with, but I just can't get myself to like them all that much. I'm fine with the odd scream/growl here and there in a song, but constantly? No thankie.

Metal is a funny genre because you can find some of the finest and worst examples of music theory all in one genre. I'm guessing you're a musician likely a guitarist (only guys that like Nevermore haha) and that's why you prefer standard vocals to screaming. In the musician world everything ought to fit logically within an appropriate scale or a mode and screaming vocals are more of a percussive style than a melodic one.

Pretty hard to stack thirds on there eh? I love it all just not a lot I can ALWAYS listen to.

Well, I am a guitarist. But I appreciate different techniques, including screaming. I just can't get my head around to actually enjoying it fully. I mean, I do like some screaming. For example, Devin Townsend, Early-A7X (which was core), Amon Amarth, Thy Catafalque, Amorphis etc

And yeah, I do quite enjoy Prog, and a little bit of Nevermore. But since I never fully got round to proper learning the guitar (I am still quite good, but nowhere near advanced or un-lazy enough to get to a decent standard) that I do enjoy expressive and sometimes overtly technical use of instruments.

And I'm the same, not a lot I can always listen to. Though I have some of my favourites. Also, I was always more of an "epic" song lover. I always prefer the longer songs in bands that have them. In my spotify, I have around 50-75 songs over 10 minutes in length. (Not all of them metal, mind you).

I also agree with the finest and worst examples. It is very true. Saying that, I am not so much a metal fan as I am a music fan where metal is one of my preferred genres. :)

What exactly makes you think you aren't at a decent enough level? If you can't play like John Petrucci it's not the end of the world. Even if you could it doesn't matter much. He is who is because of his incredible ability to write just as much as play.

Plenty of guys and I mean PLENTY make a living and are in some cases revered and worshipped from a simple knowledge of pentatonic scales.

I just struggle to keep time after a while. I'm just generally sloppy, to be honest. And I don't practice enough so I get sloppier and never really improve. And due to my temperamental nature, I only ever get round to playing it when I feel like it. Which ain't all that often, though that is partly due to me being away from the guitars right now. :?

And yeah, I know pentatonic scales, but I just want to strive to know more and use more to my advantage, but I'm too lazy.

In general I can't really get away with metal, but there are many, many exceptions... here's one of them!

New Amorphis album is absolutely fantastic. A majestic piece of melodic metal. Structurally not too complicated, and generally quite formulaic, but in terms of heaviness, catchiness and melody it is... unparalleled? I dunno. It's awesome.

Not every last bit of it. Simply the consistent impact beat poo I implied. I like Necrophagist Marco is probably the best drummer on the planet. The vocals that sound like burping get somewhat old however I bargain.

I like pretty much all metal but prefer stuff with good melody and a progressive feel with a nice demonstration of a sound knowledge of musical theory. mobdro apk vidmate app
