Top Spin serve

Postby JohnCurveo » Tue, 15 May 2012 12:53

Well, ive been acused of using that serve in important moments and that being cheesy. If u played with me u know i use all kind of serves, top spin, slice and power. Sometimes i use it a lot, sometimes not, it's just about the day.
With the new allowed Babb (1-15-4), i will sevre at 200-220 and i will use slice and top spin serve 150 -190 kmh too.

I dont understand why that it's cheesy (everything is cheesy in this game or what...).

I think it's a challenge to the server to found some tactics to start the point, but should be a challenge for the returner to understand server game.

Not cheesy in my eyes...it's actually pretty smart.

The only kind of serve that is cheesy, its zero power serve (around 119 km/h). Of course tramline serve is forbidden. If you serve from the middle of the court, you can use any type of serve without problems

Its not cheesy but the whole serving game in ts4 is unbalanced and unrealistic. You can serve on the first and second serve with the same speed and precision if you are good on your serve.

What i really like to see in TS5 are some changes in serving game. First off all 2k should put a heart rate for every player based on his stat.
After a long rally or if you miss your first serve your player will have a higher heart rate which leads to less powerfull and precision serve. Secondly a second stat for the second serve. For example: 1st serve 90. 2st Serve 79.

Those changes will lead to more realistic serve game and makes the second serve more difficult. Without these changes ppl will still serve with 220kmh on second and first serve and with the same precision.

2k sports should also remove the stutter bug after you played your return and remove tramline serving.

You need to use all types of serve or you become predictable.

It's the wide slice that forces you of court that is the most cheesy but kick serves are fine

Top spin serves give you more time to advance to the net but I don't really see the point in using them with Babb. A spin serve (from the center of the court of course) would make more sense. Unless you want to play ultra-sim and use them on your second serve only. :)

I only ever use slice or top spin on my second serve, so it feels more like a real tennis match. I don't think many players are ever that honest and it is sometimes tempting, especially when losing, to just blast it!

Top Spin serve cannot be cheesy... Fortunately it exists to bring some variety in the serve process.

fed used that in madrid as a first serve as a change up given how well clay takes that serve .
sam stosur uses it as a first serve also aplaerys like juan monaco who dont have big serves use it as a first serve but most players use it as a second serve i use it on both to mix up my serving so it aint cheesy

I've seen Isner mixing up his first serves with top spin sometimes. His height adds to the already high bounce, it won't give him direct winners though. In TS4, it doesn't matter how tall you are and if your serve and power is in the 80s or 90s I think it's better to go for a direct winner.

Its not real life though its a game. If you stand right on the T it basically becomes a viable serve BUT you don't have 2 stand on the T. Even 1 or 2 steps out from the T it becomes cheese like. Seeing as how you kind of freeze for a split second before trying 2 get back in court.

Do you know that go a few steps to the right and back in those situations solve alot?.... I have no problem with slice serves outside unless they go all the way outside or play this serve every time but I have no problem defending it. I just do what they do. Go back and to the outside, they can only go one way.. easy to defend if you ask me man.

@Dennie. Uh if you know its comin then its easy 2 defend against. But if some1 is mixing it up evenly its hard 2 judge.

Depends on your positioning and your reading on the opponents serve. I know it's very hard to defend a very good babb server like for example patko or rodger, and you are also pretty good with him, but if you position good enough you can defend it. I hardly have trouble with any slice serve because most players are fair in this and don't do the all wide slice out serve at all, exept some wt losers who cannot play the game.. but like I said even when they do they won't get the point for free I often make it to the rally and win the point.
