Serve & Volley

Postby Corbon » Sat, 03 Mar 2012 22:06

So I want to try out S&V again. Is Volley Shots Artist considered an essential skill? I want to go 15+ points into S&V and the alternatives are Roberts, Kelly and Jiquelle (Golakov is banned here). I don't mind trying out a cookie cutter setup.

volley shots artist is good if you are planing on hitting a lot of drop volleys. I prefer amazing first volley as a skill.

The last S&V guy I played in a tournament did about 3 drop shots volleys per game. In the second set I changed my tactics a bit but still lost 1-3,-3-4.

From what I understand, FH and BH also affect the respective volley shots. The thing about Jiquelle is that Serve Stick Berserker has little to no use on a char who has 91+ serve (I think 102 and 100 serve do the same thing).

Are 18 points too deep into S&V? Because I like Kelly's setup but his lack of power worries me.

The power doesn't affect his volleys -- I used to play with a Kelly character a while back. You definitely can't hit winners from the baseline, but the low power can actually help you get up to the net on approach shots...it just can also give your opponent a chance to power up a passing shot.

I've given up on S&V, I just can't play with it. Shame because I think it's the most fun style. But losing isn't.

My SnV has improved a LOT in last 2 weeks. I may even make a SnV character for the challenger.

Best SnV setups?
Best SnV skills?

Even if with the last update, it became impossible to win against the top players because of the overpowered lobs, it's obviously the funniest style.

You can have fun in the defeat !

That's my motto ;) I don't mind losing 7-6 6-7 4-6 if I made the guy well uncomfortable

Give me a call and we can train. Right now my 4 slots are full though and I only have baseliners right now.

Whenever I create a new char I do test matches against Pro Serena and deep S&V is definitely the hardest setup to beat the AI.

I was using a 18-2-0 Jiquelle set up (100 SV, 63 POW) and I was mostly playing OBL's. There's no way I can win a baseline duel against them and I refrain from using top spin / lob returns to advance to the net right afterwards. Even if I get the upper hand in a rally I often "miss" going to the net at the right moment. My set up only had 61 SPD as well.

Her Serve Stick Berserker is useless because Serve is capped at 100 and I would have 101 and Brutal Volley only works on hard volleys so out of 2 apparent skills you only really use like 0.5. And someone mentioned that Power has no effect on volleys.

Kelly has awesome wing boosts which does affect volleys but his serve is kinda weak. Nevertheless his skills are a lot better than Jiquelle's but he requires 18 points into S&V so I'd go 18-2-0 or 18-1-1. Didn't try out Roberts long enough but her Low Volley SPecialist is definitely noticable.

So the key skill seems Volley Shots Artist but Amazing First Volley and Low Volley Specialist is also good. Spectacular Volleys don't trigger often enough to make a difference imo.

Might try out this one, 12-8-0 Schiemer - Low Volley Specialist, Diesel Server. Going 8-8-0 provides an interesting set of coaches actually.

That is C4ills setup, i think it is the best S&V setup for holding your service with ease, if you can place the 100 serve well, the diesel server and orange power make it almost unplayable as low volley specialist means that you can take short returns and make them seem ineffective. Assuming that you are good at serving and volleying, this is the best setup..

Having both POW and STA in the 60's is definitely helpful for rallies when you're returning. I think my biggest problem is that I often miss good opportunities to advance to the net when my opponent is in a weak position. Reflex seems a bit low but you can't have it all.

The problem with this setup is that you're sometimes too slow, especially when the stamina becomes slow (mostly because of the last update...).

Sometimes I really prefer playing with Burns because of that (he's orange in running). It's maybe the reflexe stats actually I don't know.
Anyway, being fast at the net is more helpful than you can think.

But I admit that the serve is a nice advantage if you use it well.

Im thinking about making a S&V player and trying to play a few tournaments here on ITST since im no match to the FIFA/Shocase duo on the baseline.
