2012: Predictions

Postby Moralspain » Mon, 02 Jan 2012 23:03

My thoughts for the 2012, probably when i check this up again in December i'll feel embarrassed hahaha, but there you go:

Roger Federer: The GOAT is reaching the end of his spectacular career, and in my opinion he won't get any Grand Slam title, but he will definitely make, at least, a GS final.

Rafael Nadal: Based on what i've seen the last 3 months or so, he's also reaching the end of his great career as well, but ,in my opinion, he could win the French Open again, only that one, and maybe reach the final at Wimbledon. He would have to drastically improve his level to beat Novak.

About Federer and Nadal let me point out that what is happening with them lately is absolutely normal, they can not keep the level they used to have forever, it's impossible, that's life, and checking their results, records, titles etc, all i can say is WOW, they can "die in peace".

Novak Djokovic: He will dominate 2012 same way he did last year, hands down, he's the best player nowadays and he can easily win 2 Majors in 2012.

Andy Murray: Personally i don't expect great things from the Scot this year, i mean i don't see him winning his first GS, ...only with a lucky draw (with some upsets...) he could get it.
He has all the shots, he is physically one of the best out there, he's also probably the best player along Federer mixing up his game, in short a high class player...but something is missing, don't know what though.

David Ferrer, Andy Roddick: No changes in my opinion, some tournaments, reaching QF and some SF in Grand Slams, and maybe a 1000 points tournament....
Much respect for this two, 2 super professional players, no ups and downs like the vast majority of players.

Del Potro: This is the man of the year in my opinion, he's the one who can defeat Novak and probably get 1 or 2 Grand Slams, probably AO and the US Open. Talented enough to end the year as a Top 3, if he's healthy he can make it.

Nishikori: He was still recovering his form in 2011, but showed he can hang with the best guys so i hope he can make QF-SF in AO?, a SF-F in 1000 tournament or so. Great potential.

Harrison: Well.. the american improved a lot the last year, honestly a nice surprise, if he continues progressing we could see him reaching QF in either Australia or New York, only hard court tournaments because he has no experience on clay and grass yet.

Simon and Tsonga: mmm don't know what to say, about Simon he will end as a Top 20, but that's all, and Wilfried will reach high rounds in G. Slams but in my humble opinion he won't be able to win his first Major, a shame because he's one of my favorites but he has to improve in many aspects.

Berdych and Fish These two have talent, no doubt about that. Fish will do great playing the US Open Series, as always, he seems to forget how to play good tennis when he's not in the US though. Berdych was born to play tennis, and he will cause upsets and will defeat Nole, Rafa, Federer.. during the year, but he needs to improve mentally and also his consistency.

Verdasco Oh God, don't know what to say about this guy, we're always hoping a great season from him, maybe this could be his year, he has proved during his career he's capable of being up there with the Top guys, but like many other players on the tour his mental weakness is a big problem, we'll see.

Troicky and Tipsarevic: No idea , top 20 guys by the end of the year, that's sure.

Tomic, Dimitrov: Big expectations on these 2, but i won't say anything because i haven't followed them lately so have no idea about how they can perform this year, i know they're young and talented, that's all., what else?

Laurynas Grigelis: 198 singles ranking. I've been following this guy, and i think he can climb to Top 50-Top 60 by the end of the season.

.... so many players to talk about..like Wawrinka, Isner etc, so go ahead and post your thoughts for the 2012.

About Murray. I think much the same again as last year. Will many events and will reach another slam final and should make a few semis in the slams. The pressure to win at wimbledon is too much. You have to see it too believe it. He NEEDS a massive year like Novak just had. But it's more hope than expectations.

Come on MURRAY clean sweep.

One of the top 5 players will die this year.

Novak Djokovic will go back in time and make sure Mardy McFly's parents make out.

Somebody will hit a 190 mph serve.

Ernests Gulbis will get AIDS from a hooker

You heard it here first

Gulbis will do nothing. Raonic will get top 20.
I'd like to see Dolgopolov improve, and Ebden get to the top 50.
I'm interested to see what Muzz can do with Lendl as his coach.
If he starts playing agressively like USO 2008, he could cause people like Nadal serious problems.
I forsee Nole staying 1, but #2 and #3 might alter.

Wait no, I got this all wrong. Feli Lopez to be world nr 1 after he storms through to the Roland Garros title with a new two-handed backhand and baseline grinder style. (and shaved bald head)

- Murray will be surprising with his new coach Lendl. He will reach a Slam final this year at least.
- Tsonga will reach a gran slam final too and/or final of Olympics Games.
- Nadal will colapse this year : he won't win any gran Slam and won't reach any gran slam final.
- Federer will win 1 gran slam or Olympics Game and will be near the n°1 rank.
- Del Potro as Gasquet, Simon, Verdasco, Ferrer, Monfils will do nothing.
- Djokovic will win 1 gran slam at least : Roland Garros
- Tomic or Isner will reach Semi of a gran slam !

I'm wondering how can Lendl help Murray...
Because I thought he simply threw away all his tennis stuff right after he quit Tennis... He only played Golf...
So I wonder how he can be aware of modern Tennis skills/tactics/training...
Maybe on the mental aspect he can be precious though...

Its going to be a three-horse race. Nadal, Federer and Djokovic. Murray sucks in comparison, we're all just not addressing the biggest, fattest elephant in the room.

Nadal: I'm watching Rafa v Kohlschreiber now, and while he looks rusty, this is Nadal we are talking about here.. we will see him in most if not all GS finals. While he has switched rackets and is not feeling 100% comfortable just yet, it's better to make this change now than when hes 28-29.
GS wins: Roland Garros, US Open
MS wins: 2
Olympic Medal: Bronze

Federer: Federer if he feels like it is the ultimate boss and can win any tournament he wants to. The question is how much he still wants it.
GS Wins: Wimbledon
MS wins: 1
Olympic Medal wins: Gold

Djokovic: The man to beat the moment. The season he had last year and the amount of points and tournaments he has to defend.. I don't think he has the same mental strength as Federer and Nadal to grind it out this season. He'll definitely win most the MS's and a slam though.
GS wins: Australian Open
MS wins: 3-4
Olympic Medal: Silver

Murray: Lol.
GS Wins:
MS Wins:
Olympic Medal: Classic fail.

Del Potro: If he's fully fit, and in his 2009 US Open/O2 form he'll maybe win a slam and a couple of 500 and MS's.
GS Wins: US Open (maybe).
MS wins: 1-2

I think Federer finished last year playing great tennis! So in my opinion he will win wimbledon this year and reach the number 2. It seems Nadal its starting to have problems with injury due to his effort on the court so he will finish third! Djoko will finish the year number one, playing amazing tennis! Tsonga will have his best year on the tour and if Del Potro stays healthy he will be number 4! But for me this year Federer and Djoko will play most of the tournaments finals!

Lendl had lost 4 gran slam finals before winning his first title in these tournaments. Murray has lost 3 or 4 finals too without any win, so he can surely help him !

And just one thing more : if you add the stats of Lendl to those of Murray in TS4, you create an indestructible player with more than 100 in each stats

don't see it happening myself - Lendl is a legend, no two ways about it....but honestly....Murray and Lendl????? Murray's game needs an injection of flare and aggression.....putting him with Lendl is like pairing him with an older (much more successful), retired version of himself - i see TONs of quarter/semis and several non grand-slam events - grand-slams? This union is like what happens when close relatives procreate - all the bad traits/flaws match up and are made manifest - look for a Murray from 3 or 4 years ago - lots of strategy and physicality and percentage play......yawn. Sorry - hoped it would be otherwise, and hope it will....just don't see it.

Jay - don't hold back man - lovin' your remarks!! :D :D
