New Federer Racket for 2012

New Federer Racket for 2012

Postby RainingAmoeba79 » Mon, 29 Aug 2011 16:02

Hey guys I was talking to a Wilson Rep today, and he said that Roger will be getting a new frame for 2012! So, I naturally went around the interconnected webs to take a look, and the first evidence found was this:http://twitpic.com/5t2aksand then this:http://twitter.com/#!/iTennisnl/status/107387190589394944/photo/1/large

If you translte from Dutch to English, it says on the bottom :"The prostaff is back, Roger Federers new racket for 2012.

I can not wait! I zoomed in on the specs, and it said:340 grams/12oz, 30.5cm/12points HL balance unstrung, and 90 sq.in 581cm². However, it does say "signature series on the top, and the wilson rep said that some larger headsizes are coming, so maybe, just MAYBE, we could have this racket in a 93-100 sq inch headsize, which would be awesome!

The only thing I do not like is the horrible PJ. It seems to be geared towards Feds goal of the 2012 olympics, with the swiss flag colors, along with BLX scheme. Here is an image:

Is anyone excited about this, or is it just me?

I hate to burst your bubble, but that's the same racquet with a new paint job. All of the 6.1's will be updated in 2012 (6.1 Tour, 6.1 Team, 6.1 95), as well as the "Pro" frames (Pro Open, Pro Tour, Pro Lite). That's why they're all on sale right now.

Well, I know Fed will be using the same racket he always does with this PJ, but will the rackets be released with a new PJ or will it be new?

I don't even think there will be any new "technology" in the new frame (it still says BLX), so I'm sure this is just a paint job. In other words, it's an excuse to keep charging $200 for a frame that's 3 years old. It's still an excellent racquet though.

yeah like all the pros, stock racquets have nothing to do with the ones pro players use, nothing.

Check TW forum and you'll got all the info, pictures etc

I like the new grip colour.
I heard rumours though that Fed has been using a slightly larger racquet head in the last few months though - something closer to 93/95 sq. inches.
But players are always playing different things from what is actually marketed as 'their' racquet...

Yeah I use a BLX. best racket I ever had. I use gut string though which is a bitch. And yeah pro sticks are heavily customized.

:? It's leather.

Supposedly, he's using the same frame he's used for years, but he wants to try something larger. The problem is, there is no off season in tennis, so he has no chance to try something different.

What's wrong with leather? :p
Watch him in the US Open...tonight even. I saw one of his practice vids, and the head definitely looks a little larger.

honestly, few years ago i would have understood that change to a bigger head...98 for example, but now, when he's about to end his career? nonsense.
When he retires he can try Babolat, really friendly 100 racquet, like Sampras has done

Actually, I think the larger head makes more sense now.

Oh, and BTW: That Babolat Pete uses is a 98. Even at his age, he doesn't need a 100 (only Rafa needs that :p)

Nothing. But you said it was a new color, and that racquet has always had a leather grip. I'm just nitpicking, I guess.

I remember pete saying if he had his time again towards the end he would have tried a newer racket... i think the original prostaff came out in like 1984 so was well ancient by the time pete retired.

I heard the BLX is just a paintjob of Federers KFactor, or is there new technology involved?
