Knowing that everyone here probably has a complete different opinion, I'd like to address those who played on both consoles or who are convinced saying that they prefer one of the two or even if they dislike any one.
I have thought about getting a console for some time now and if I'd wait a bit longer I would probably buy one once Xbox720 or PS4 is out. Especially now where I do not have any further hope that TS will be released for PC anymore.
Of course, both have certain advantages:
Xbox360:
- a bit cheaper
- games are a bit cheaper as well
- maybe better controller? At least it seems to be more ergonomic
- Kinect does not require any controller at all whereas you still have to hold something in your hand for PS Move
PS4:
- online play is free
- Bluray (I don't have any Bluray movies anyway!)
- looking forward to the next hack attack on Sony
Does anyone know why PS games are often 5-10% more expensive than the ones from Xbox?
At least for me the only argument in favour for PS3 is that playing online is free. Now the main question is that whether the online mode of Xbox is worth 5€/month. Is it really that better?

It can also depends on what kind of games you like...
In exemple, the Xbox has much more "gamers" games : Arcade games (thx to the xboxlive, and all the Streets Of Rage II, Shinobi, Altered Beast...) and shoot em up games (the Cave manic shooters like Deathsmiles, or Mushihimesama games...).
You also have the "exclusive games" : Uncharted, Gran Turismo on the Playstaytion, and Gears Of War on the Xbox...
And about the prices, PS3 games are now on a different support disc (bigger)... So maybe that's why it's more expensive...

The xbox360 hands down - better at everything bar playing blu-rays. It is still the case that quite a few PS3 games are only released in 720p!!! So they might have a slightly more powerful engine(which developers have only just got to grips with) but as xbox360 often has 4 pixels for every one displayed by the PS3, most of the time xbox wins hands down on graphics. Having said that if you have a 3D telly and want to maximise your choice of 3D content PS3 is embracing this more than xbox. ICO and Shadow of Colossus are being re-released in HD and 3D (for this alone I will borrow or buy then sell a PS3).
Really though its xbox live that wins it. It has been superb since it launched on the xbox1 and is pretty flawless. I'd also be scared of my identity/credit card details being stolen if I had a PS3
The controllers are also better on xbox. I used to think play station controllers were better and if you use the d-pad maybe they are as it positioned for the primary control method. This is very very out dated - the majority of games use the analogue stick. Once you get used to 360 pads you will never want to use a ps3 pad. Also playstation doesn't have force feedback on its wireless pads which is lame. Its a surprisingly useful feature. On the upside for playstation you can use your controller as a Wii like motion device
If you don't want to play on-line much, want a blu-ray player and have tiny hands - buy a PS3
Otherwise buy an xbox
PS. Kinect is awesome - I played the table tennis recently and it was really really cool. However I know I'll play on this for about 3 weeks and then it will sit there gathering dust just like my Wii. So I'm trying to keep my money in my pocket. It would be seriously cool for kids or girlfriends who like dance games though.

About Kinect : I am now playing Child of Eden (not with kinect, I don't have it) and it's already awesome!!! I'm wondering how awesome it can be with the Kinect? Did you try this game with Kinect? It must be fantastic feelings! (and a bit exhausting too 
)

Seems like you already made up your mind about this. Your advantages for the playstation seem more like a mock.
If you are not a Playstation fanboy (like myself), nor do you have alot of friends with a Playstation then it's a no brainer to go for the X360.

Thanks for the other evaluations but what exactly makes Xbox live better than PSN? Is it less laggier or just more colourful?

The PS3 does not have any hidden charges like the XBox and the for me I find the difference in Online play barely noticeable. It s entirely dependent on your own internet connection.
I prefer the playstation controller because it suits all different kinds of games, namely sports games such as FIFA and Madden much better than the X Box controller, but the PS3 controllers are very expensive. If you play shooters X Box is the way to go though. The triggers are excellent for that.
As a cinephile the Blu Ray is a huge bonus, as is the access to BBC iPlayer, ITV OD and 4OD, in addition to MLB TV (don't actually use it though, but it's a bonus), and the LoveFilm connectivity.
The browser on the PS3 is starting to date and needs updating, but has been a useful tool when I want to check something very quickly and the CPU is a slog.
The PS3 is a bigger outright payment, but it offers way more within that lump sum. You can buy a PS3 and not need to buy anything in addition (such as extra memory) and still enjoy online features and movies.
As stated above it did seem that you had already made your mind up, so I doubt my Ps3 argument will be particularly helpful, but as a piece of hardware the PS3 dominates the Xbox 360.

X Box live, having to buy the defunct HD DVD player, the older X Boxes with lower memory needing a Hard Drive etc.
Again, the Blu Ray player on PS3 isn't bad at all and it saves having to buy one for the PC.
Of course as has been said it's entirely personal preference and I like the speed with which I can access things like iPlayer, ITVod and 4od without having to turn on the computer, which is a hassle for me.
Also, I don't feel comfortable buying things through a console, so the option of not spending a penny to play online is really appealing.
I'm not a fan boy, I don't believe in pledging allegiance to a company, I just buy what suits me best, and it so happens to be that that is the PS3!

Hackers have some BS info. Nothing real on my account at all.
And XBL isn't immune to hacking. It can get hacked too... and everyone who plays online has card info on it.

I didn't say it was immune, but it hasn't been hacked to shreds like PSN has, so...
Even without that I still see absolutely ZERO reason to ever choose PSN over XBL for any reason. It's not a logical choice when you lay out all the pros and cons of both.
