ONLY USE BRONZE COACHES!!!

Postby Julius Jackson » Tue, 31 May 2011 21:00

never looked at them before...but NONE OF THE BRONZE COACHES GIVE YOU ABILITIES!!!! so BAN GOLD AND SILVER COACHES!!!!!!!!!!!

all problems/complaints will be solved immediately and forever if you mandate ONLY bronze coaches. the gm then becomes pure tennis, not what special bs ability every1 has.

why?

because weve already banned monster defense completely....instant rocket is WAY overpowered as well...then comes topspin invasion...just BAN THEM ALL and enjoy pure sim tennis. :D

i cannot underscore this enough: BAN GOLD/SILVER COACHES and itst takes a HUGE leap forward.

Did TS3 have coaches?

I'm thinking no coaches would make the game way too vanilla. Then it would be just building up a big ground stroke or a serve and volley game. In the real world people have their strengths and players have different games strategy and tactics, don't the coaches allow us to personalize our playing style?

My style is "totally suck" but i keep thinking i just haven't found the right combo haha

No skills would be proper insane.

It would be 'playing god' with programming....

Just my opinion but it's a good one

what do u mean?

skills determine most pts, most gms, and almost every match. the player with the right abilities will win most matches. why not make it pure skill, pure tennis? the abilities are like street fighter or mortal kombat...push this button combo to get this attack...just so arcadelike.

then hitting a "poisoned slice" will be based on skill not some silly ability from a coach. then well-timed power shots will matter instead of just choosing to have instant rocket, etc., etc.

This is PURELY your opinion..but you are presenting it like it's carved in stone fact, which is...

Even if what you said were true, you can extend that logic to almost anything in the game....

Shots determine most points, most games, and almost every match. The player with the right shots will win most matches

Stats determine most points, most games, and almost every match. The player with the right stats will win most matches.

how is that NOT undeniably true? of course how good a player you are matters and can overcome any ability (if the skill gap is wide enough), but to deny that abilities determine just about everything in TS4 is bordering on absurd.

u seem to disagree...but then why do we only see 3 builds online? everything is centered around TI/MD and then instant rocket...and finally diesel hitter. thats TS4 in a nutshell. the answer as to why is simply that 2k failed to make the abilities equal...some are worth using, some simply are not.

so if everyone who plays TS4 uses the same 3-4 abilities and all of those people basically play the same style with said abilities...how can u not say that those abilities render TS4 into a repetitive tit-for-tat arcade gm? its almost like a turn-based fighter...not kidding.

now take out all that bs, all those superhuman angles (which has been done with banning TI/MD), all the superhuman power, then finally u have a gm based solely on skill, which will reflect sim tennis far better than any silver/gold coach will allow.

how is this not beyond obvious to everyone?

I think some of the skills are a bit too arcadey, but not all. Poisoned slices just make you hit lower slices, which isn't something you can improve with your own skill. Instant rocket lets you hit hard without having to charge for as long, which you also can't duplicate. Shot counter, spectacular volleys, inside out master... again, can't be duplicated. Those skills help define how you play, and how you play against someone.

Now some skills, imo, are kind of garbage. Monster defense, highly flammable, anything invasion, diesel anything, smell of blood,..... those are all things that should be up to the player.

i guess...but youre missing the pt.

TS4 has 2 levels. on the first level theres the raw numbers of the player. you might choose to have 2 strong wings, a volley, whatever...on the 2nd level there are the abilities. abilities exist outside of the framework of the actual gm...they are like boosts essentially. so you might like the power boost, the slice boost, or the angle boost...doesnt matter -- theyre only there so you can boost your player UNNATURALLY (key word).

using these boosts takes limited skill. hitting a crushing winner with instant rocket takes less skill than hitting one without the boost...and this applies to each and every boost in the gm.

SO TAKE OUT THE BOOSTS!!!

boosts arent tennis. they are in there to appeal to the "gamer", to the people who consider sim gaming "too boring".

and thats EXACTLY why they shouldnt be used. they arent natural abilities...they reduce TS4 to arcade tennis.

They shouldn't be used because they have a unique effect on gameplay??

I don't see your point at all, sorry. I'm done with this thread I guess...I don't have a 'problem' with any of the skills, they're part of what makes TS4, TS4....if you don't like it there are other games out there for you to enjoy. I don't worry about petty things I just try to actually have fun with the game, and all that is in it, sorry. I think once people accrue a certain amount of losses..tough losses, brutal beatdowns, whatever- they start looking for reasons why, why, why is this happening to me. Skills are the most likely scapegoat; it's all the skills, that's why these people are beating me, it's because the damn skills are unbalanced, man!

have you ever played a match WITHOUT abilities? its beautiful -- its TENNIS!

"a unique effect on gameplay"...ya, so would a magical racket that made the ball spin sideways and backwards. are the boosts based on tennis? nope. why are they in the game? to appeal to the WoW mindset. take them out and you no longer have ridiculous slices, gets, angles, power, etc., etc....

i know youre good...so you must just be confused or unaware of how much better gameplay would be with only bronze coaches. or maybe you simply must have your magical racket...
