Madrid Masters

Talk about anything related to the ATP and WTA tours.

That's true about the 'soo many clay events'. I mean...that being his best surface, and there being such a long clay season...yeah Rafa is an amazing player any way you slice it, but I dunno if he'd be quite as high if the year was truly evenly divided between the 4 major surfaces.

He'd probably be like....81%

BTW I think this whole thing with his % is totally irrelevant actually. You're right AUSSIE it's totally not fair to compare him with retired players.....also it's not very specific. He has the highest winning percentage?? Oh yeah?? What about some guy who has just started his career on a 13 match win streak in the challengers?? It's apples and oranges, you can't compare retired players with active players, the active player's (Nadal) percentage can always go down before he retires anyways...

No offense Xavi :) I actually thought "Wow that's really cool!" at first when I read that, but then shortly realized that it's actually meaningless at this moment.

it's ok Jon, I agree with you guys about the % stuff, although i'm not the one who compared him with retired players, i just did copy/paste from a newspaper, that's all, i guess the journalist couldn't compare with active players, because only Rafa and Federer are able to meet "the challenge".
I would also like to watch him more on grass, nowadays he's also the best on that surface in my opinion, and i think his ratio won/lost is even better, every time he plays on Wimbledon he either reaches the final or gets the title, not bad for a specialist on clay, problem is that people forget all this because his stats on clay are not the best ones, are just from another planet, but he definitely can play on more surfaces well.
Fed is also there on grass, they both are the best payers on grass right now, but i see Nadal slightly better, as i guess Fed fans see the swiss better than Nadal, that's normal.
We've discussed this so many times, problem here is that you only find good grass courts in the northern part of Europe, and those courts are expensive to build and maintain.

PS: btw i like watching every one in white at Wimbly, i hate the color festival from Nike and Adidas (greens, pinks yellows....), i'm very traditional.

This got me wondering: Who has given out the most bagel sets of all time??

I'm talking about retired AND active players....but I have a feeling it's one of 2 players who are currently active. I would bet it's either Rafa or Fed.

Maybe I should make that a little more specific and/or relevant...out of everybody who's ever won a Slam, who has dished out the most bagels???

-According to the match scores listed on the ATP website, Borg bageled his opponents (sets won 6-0) 116 times from 1973 through 1981, compared to Roger Federer’s 52 bagels from 1999 through the 2007 Australian Open.

Edit : as of 2010 federer stands at 71 bagels.

Moralspain wrote:After beating LLodra today, Rafa, at the age of 24, has became the player with best winning percentage in tennis history.

Nadal: 82,73%
Bjorg: 82,72%
Connors: 81,76%
Lendl: 81,75%
McEnroe: 81,50%
Federer: 81,09%
Sampras: 77,4%
Becker: 76,9%

I know %s are not always a good information because, for example Connor played 1519 matches during his career, so his 81,79% is pretty amazing  , even though Rafa stat is amazing, he has played 608 official matches and has won 503 (and he's 24), awesome Fed too with 947 played and 768 wins, awesome

Didn't borg retire at like 26?? that percentage is totally irrelevant as it would need to be a percentage over a set number of years/and age - and total matches would also need to be comparable.

Connors is amazing being as he played till he was about 42. Wish grass had a longer season, but you would need to knock out a clay event to push the French back. Or even Indian wells and Miami, great tournaments but I don't see the point of them? They are a bit random. Ideally would see halle bumped up to a masters and queens just after up to a 500 series. Queens must have the most pathetic "draw roster -ranking points" ratio of any tournament. Halle and hall of fame are worth the same, yet all halle gets is fed playing some randomer in the final like kohlschrieber, and the hall of fame might get querry and fish and the rest ranked 85+ lol

They need to do SOMETHING to lengthen the grass-court season, or else they should seriously just do away with grass altogether. The 'grass season' is a joke. They should give it the respect it deserves, being the surface tennis was first played on...
