I know you're totally joking, but the really funny thing is I've never shot a gun. Not once, in my entire life.

i shot a gun for my first time a few months ago and ill be 27 this year...i shot two different types of assault rifles, a 30/30, a .38 and a .45, and i said no to the double barrel shotgun....i hate guns and would never have one in my house and i would not like to shoot another one

The aspect of it that annoys me - I have quite a few Muslim friends - is when some them sometimes get into this nasty anti-American rhetoric, they're really criticising a particular part of some politcian's or political parties action (typically some foreign policy stuff)....but that's not what they say or talk about - rather they say things like 'bloody amercians', which is facile and ignorant - most of the American people I know and have known are really cool, thoughtful and interesting people.

Americans just try and survive....because if you don't take it, someone else will.

good to try it out though, right? I owned a .22 rifle and my father let me use his shotgun (pump-action, if you can believe that...very unusual for farmer-type chaps to have) when i got old enough - never really liked the shotgun tho...too loud, and the recoil was incredible - i recall an old friend dislocating his shoulder once, when he didn't have it pulled-up tightly enough - plus, with that damn thing, you either shredded the target, or, if it was slightly too far away, just scared the hell out of it, AND everything else in a 2-mile radius....: )

We used to shoot crows/jackdaws that were harmful to crops/lambs (common for lambs to have their eyes picked out, and the jackdaws return later to pick at the new corpse....blind lambs not having great survival likelihood), and also rabbits....which tended to overrun if left unchecked.

i confess again that i enjoyed it up to a point, and for a period....still reckon having a gun/guns in the house....well....that's been talked out at length in another thread

i know i am talking a lot today and everyone may not agree with what i say....after reading more into this it is not really alarming to me at the moment. It is not by coincidence that the more and more farms are taken away from the people and controlled by these big companies, essentially the government and companies like Monsanto control everything about the procedures from how the farm is grown to how much these companies will allow a farmer to put in his or her pocket. Therefore the bigs will seek even more control to keep information from others even the farmers doing the work to seek more profit. Remember, the ones doing favors and making others money can get away with breaking the law. We will see yet another area of U.S. product turn to pure crap.

big difference with this (potential) trend is that they're not looking at breaking the law with this....they're changing the law and then operating within it's bounds.....an altogether more sinister turn of events IMO :?

Beltic, in one sentence. What is the ultimate goal of the people pushing it?

and in another one sentence: What is the final, final, end result as it stands?

hmmm.....i struggle with single sentences.... :D

here goes though - ultimate goal of people pushing the new legislation = autonomy of practice (good or bad) behind closed doors AND hefty prosecution prospects for 'troublemakers' or those who pass on the messages of troublemakers.

final end result - hard to predict fully man, but certainly the enabling of these big food factories to skirt/avoid health and safety for workers, never mind truly dire conditions...for the animals too - also, no-one from the outside (not including designated inspectors) can see inside - thus people/consumers don't get to be put off by the practices involved, which i believe they would be, in their droves (have a look at some of the CAFO's in the U.S. now).

sorry - i can't express myself in single sentences very well

Ha! Don't worry, you're not alone. I have the same problem. Being a scientist, I'm way more used to elaborating on things rather than shortening them. :P

this constitutes an update Al, rather than the requested single sentence(s) as requested, and goes a way to answer your question more elaborately than I have - more eloquently too:

Why Don't Minnesota Lawmakers Want to Talk About Proposed Law Against Videotaping Inside Animal Facilities?

and

Ag-Gag Laws - coverage goes NATIONAL - Little piggies, crawling in the dirt: Minnesota reps behind ag-gag bill have factory-farm ties

finally, and PLEASE BE ADVISED, the following link is to a very disturbing video - the kind of video that H.R.1369 in the Minnesota State House and S.F. 1118 in the State Senate would prohibit recording, possessing, or distributing (first offence? a gross demeanor...2nd offence? a felony):
