The problem is if you switch to directing your swing left before your player starts to move. You need to get your player moving towards the right first and then once he's moving aim the shot (switch this of course for a lefty serve).

I have played alot of matches against friend I know have high bandwith, as do I. And in these matches I haven't noticed this problem at all. But in the matches I've played with just a little lag I have experienced this problem alot more...

Man I would be so happy if someone would figure out how to fix this. I played 2k last night with Agassi and played pretty well but damn.....sooooo many points were lost because after I hit a shot, he would just kind of stand there for a second. Even while i'm hitting RT, not hitting RT, pushing the stick the direction I wanted to go, I tried everything.

This is really getting on my nerves and if I can't figure out what i'm doing wrong or if this is a glitch or whatever then I just can't see me playing this game much.

I went and did the tennis academy just to see how the movement was there and it was flawless. Player moved when I wanted him to.

What is the deal. I am so frustrated with this.

The deal is to not press the button too soon... It's the only way to avoid this bug.

I'm not sure if that really works, but even if so it's ridiculous and doesn't address the main issue. The problem is when you have to go out wide to chase a ball - for example an out wide serve. Now I'm off the court to the right and hit a return to my opponent. I know with 99% certainty that the next shot from him is going to be to my left. As soon as I hit my shot I should be able to immediately begin running to that side, or at least towards the center baseline - that's what would really happen in tennis. But I can't, because my player is stuck in some ridiculous looping stutter step.

If you know with almost absolute certainty where your opponent is going to hit the next shot, there is no excuse for not being able to start moving towards that spot immediately after making your swing. Now I think that stamina and maybe a combination of speed and reflexes should affect just how quickly you can stop and reverse direction, but for a player to stutter step and then stop, take a ready position, and then start moving again.. that should never made it through testing.

Do you mean swing button or analog, cause I've gotten perfect swing returns (with return counter) to the server's open court, and I'd still stutter, even if i waited on pressing the analog to move.

the so called splitstep bug , that really happens when u push the shotbutton befor u actually move.. i have mastered the splitstep- wiggle ... u wanna see it , play me lol

the damn freeze bug is definetly caused by the connection. playing opposnents here in europe it rarely happens.. but if the op is from any other continent, even the usa where broadband is standart for over a decade , its hapening in every 2nd match--

is it direct connection between the 2 boxes when u play online ?
or is everything going over servers

Okay, I had this occur to me in an offline match. It's not connected to online play.

It is and it isn't. The problem arises when you try and move to the other direction too early. Wait just a little longer before you do it. The lag in online play pronounces this problem because it causes a larger window of time where this will happen. The only way to get around this problem is to consciously train yourself against it. Play a match and keep thinking to yourself during it 'I won't try to change direction too early' and eventually it will just become second nature.

Short taps in whatever direction helps too. I stopped leaning so much on the analog stick and it helped my responsiveness a little.

I know what the problem is. I'm just trying to explain to people it's not just another problem with online. Online does 'extend' the stopping period. Also, I would wait a wee bit longer before movement, but sometimes you need to get there as fast as possible. And the stop is sometimes random, which is also annoying.

Yeah that's true but I think that might be more a lag-related bug. Sometimes the player does stop moving for a bit even after you've started moving the other direction already. I'm not sure this problem is fixable but the sudden changing direction one might be.

Yeah, the sudden changing one should be fixable. This one I think could be aswell. You'd just have to put a bit of code in that stops your player from splitstepping if you have already began moving in a direction before the opponent hits the ball.
