Sorry man i was in a bit of a bad mood. I have heard what you said about 2012 said once or twice before, then when what I said was pointed out, the Americans acted like it didnt matter when it happened to Japan but when it happened In America, pissed me off, and I wrongly took it out towards you

The 2012 argument is so hilarious. Some guy was on TV earlier saying all the recent earthquakes and tsunami's are a sign of "the world becoming prepared for 2012" and the end of civilization. he also claimed the "Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world through numerous colossal earthquakes". The bloody Mayan calendar is exactly that, a calendar. It can't "predict" anything, it just tells you the date! It can predict the end of the world about as well as my calendar can predict this weeks lottery numbers.

Crazy natural disaster s**t like this has been happening for an eternity and is not happening any more often now than it ever has!

Sometime in the very very very distant past there's probably been hurricanes with 400 mph winds and 10.0 earthquakes we just weren't around to see them.

Of course. Probably wayy higher, like 14/5 magnitude. we just ain't seen it.

but you know one thing all apocalyptic predictions have in common? they have all failed. so far!

That's what they all say. Wait till they predict right, then you're screwed

I think we'd much more screwed if we had no idea it was coming. False predictions are probably the worst though, since you eventually just start to ignore them.

I'm so glad we only have hurricanes to deal with where I live. We get several days warning, so you pretty much have to blame yourself if something bad happens.

All we have here is the occasional severe tornado. For our most severe weather I don't think I've ever heard of any more than 5 deaths. I had power knocked out on my block for 3 days, with trees all over the roads. That's about as bad as it comes. I couldn't even imagine if it were 1000 times worse than that.

I think in the next 500 years there will be a civilisation-ending event. We won't go extinct but be knocked back technology wise a few hundred years, for a few years at least. Whether its man-made or natural though i dont know. I even read a solar flare could knock out all the world's electronics. The last one happened in the 19th century and only took out telegraph lines, we have a lot more electrical stuff now! If the world suddently lost all its electricity we would just be in instant anarchy.
