Sharapova and Venus both hit harder and more powerful than Serena.

Serena is pretty much the most complete player on tour, she can play defesnive, offensive and she can come to the net. She has the best serve and backhand on the WTA tour, and she even has the most mental fortitude.

You do not win 14 grand slams on power alone.

True. If so, then Soderling would have won much more. Serena is powerful, just not as powerful as a few. She makes up for it by using variety when needed. Some people think power is the end all be all. Power is most important, but not not the decider of everything.

How often does any woman come to the net since 2000?

Either way, with the current game, coming to the net is simply not a necessary part of any players game.

See that's one reason why a lot of people make fun of the WTA game :D

You have to know how to end points at the net on the men's tour...maybe it's not as important as in the 80's/early 90's but it's still very important to know how to end it at the net because the guys now are so fast and will get to anything.

true and if you see a young girl who's volleys are her strength, the coach will probably be like "umm...we really have to get your ground game up!"

There's probably about 2 serve and volleyers on the women's top 150 lol

Sounds about right. I'm not being funny but when navratilova got a wildcard to the singles draw at wimbledon 2004, and WON her first round match at some ridiculous age of like 48, if i was that girl i would retire immediately with the shame. Martina also took her 2nd round match to 3 sets. If she was 5 years younger she might have won the whole bloody thing.

Nope, it was the then 24-year old Catalina Castaño from Colombia. Navratilova was 47 btw ;)

Oh and it wasn't even close, it was 6-1 6-0

Nearly all WTA players END points at the net. That's where nearly all top players get their winners from. Even Wozniacki.

But they cannot come to the net off a serve and hit a good first volley after a strong shot like let's say a Federer or Roddick can.
