PS3 trouble

Postby VillaJ100 » Fri, 04 Feb 2011 22:06

So, i was playing black ops then all of a sudden my console froze, crashed, and i have a red blinking light. Now if i try to turn it on, the light urns green, then yellow for a split second and then flashes red. The disc is still in my console, but is it completely dead?

sony say it will be £150 to get a reconned one, don't know whether its worth getting a whole new console. Its the original 60GB one, i've had it since july 2007 lol. it wouldnt be so bad but some games i've literally put days worth of play in and will lose all that data, and also the black ops disc is stuck inside :(

I found at least a dozen videos on Youtube with this trick:

How to Eject CD From PS3 (for if your cd is stuck inside )

If you have to get a new console, try to keep your old one (at least until your new one arrives) - there's also videos on fixing (temporarily) the YLOD with a hairdryer, and transferring saved data from one PS3 to another. You might be out some cash, but at least you can keep all your game saves.

Thanks rob, those vids look "do-able" for me :) im pretty poor when it comes to fixing things, especially electronics. a data transfer seems the best option but i will need to get a new ps3 and find a way of ensuring my old one stays alive long enough for it to happen, at the moment is so knackered even the force eject won't work.

Your online will be the exact same, you will lose all your saved game data on the PS3, but all your online stats will be the same

Never underestimate the pain of a person, because in all honesty, everyone is struggling. Some people are just better at hiding it than others.

For me my screen froze and it zoomed out until all i could see were tiny .5 cm squared boxes of what I was supposed to be seeing. After that the PS3 would last on for a shorted and shorter amount of time before it just would no longer turn on

SOLDIER DOWN!

i have rang some friends and been recommended to a guy that does repairs for £40 and comes with a 90 day warranty for the repair. I think i will get a new console and link it with the old and data transfer, then deactivate the old console and use it as a doorstop or something :)
