Yeah who needs a gun when 911 and the police care for your safety like this!!??

The proper thing to do is always 1) Sit there and suck your thumb, 2)Wait for the police to save you. That way the robber gets what he wants, you don't get hurt, and 'everybody wins'.

hmmm....my initial reaction was dismay...bad news etc.

but the story is peculiar....

i find myself wondering....why, for example, would a burglar, knowing there was someone inside, persist in his attempt? wouldn't he assume the police were being called if so - and if so, why persist with the attempt - almost putting yourself in line for a) getting shot or b) getting caught.....kinda odd?

then he eventually, after 10/12 minutes manages to gain entry - nothing really specific in the report about how he did this - i didn't see any broken glass/doors - but he's 'beaten back' by a young woman....with a vacuum cleaner? hello? it would also appear that he wasn't armed - there's no mention of this either in the report - but if he was, surely an intruder brandishing a gun would not be assailed by a young woman with a vacuum....i mean really?

i mean it just doesn't add up - why would he not be armed? it being the US and all, i know if it was me, i'd tend to assume the resident(s) would be armed and therefore would bring something myself, right? what was he, some vegan-hippy (!!!) home-invader?

to summarise - why would a burglar take a v v v long time to break in knowing there were people awake and home, or if he didn't, why wasn't he armed?

to me, this has either been misrepresented by the news station, or, well....staged entirely, frankly - have a look at the station's website - it's a little interesting the sheer volume of criticism they have for police/state officials and the volume of reportage talking about murders and rape specifically - little else.

dunno dunno dunno....the very cynical observer (me!) might be inclined to comment, in keeping with the fear-mongering and outright lying that the tea-baggers have been engaging in this last 2 years that this fits that model/paradigm very nicely, no?

i could well be, and even likely am wrong about this - but look over the report again....there are fundamental critical 'norms' not present here....just doesn't add up to me....

I've just this minute emailed the person who wrote the article - simply asked if the perpetrator was armed and if they knew anything more at this stage about his motives/history.

will let you know of any response i receive.

ps - i was very diplomatic and pleasant....phew....i need to lie down after such expenditure of effort

Are you serious, man?

He was probably a couple days into a meth binge and was starting to run out! He was likely not thinking of anything remotely related to matters of stealth, disguise, efficiency, time spent there, etc etc etc...

I'm really not being flippant, I'm serious, the guy was probably incredibly high. That's generally the true reason behind these kind of home invasions.

could be bro, could be - i'm keeping an open(ish) mind on it and exercising my 1st amendment rights

if what you suggest is accurate, then why wasn't that, or some motive included in the report?

this isn't journalism - not in this format - it's more akin to propaganda and scare-mongering....to my mind : ) a journalistic report would report as many facts as possible, and have reference to those omitted, eg - "it's not yet clear what the perpetrator/suspect intended" - it may be that robbery was the motive, but not addressing it in the report kind of allows people to come to that (potentially incorrect) assumption. Assuming there's some legitimacy to it, I don't for a second assume or believe he was there to offer to mow the lawn - but it ought to be addressed and not left hanging...don't you think?

we'll see how it unfolds. I haven't had any response from the 'journalist' in question yet.

oh - you didn't answer my question man - did you look at the video included in the link? Also - did you read the Palin/Tea-Party article?

Absolutely ridiculous. This happened to me. I was transferred to three branches just to report a cigarette butt that was about to cause a wild fire!

My experience was not as life threatening as hers, but the experience with the dispatchers was! :(

The issue is being understaff or people just not caring any more.

bad news, and we've all probably had similar experience - waiting too long in non-emergency, or heaven forbid emergency situations.

My main point here is really the amount of propagandised 'news', or rather the dramatic increase thereof in the last 2 to 3 years in America - this isn't really my opinion, it's more of a fact - this 'tea party' shower have been very deliberately stoking things up with a view to ultimately discrediting the Obama administration - this isn't conspiracy theory, and it's not even that unusual, in political history - what's unnerving is the sheer level and the organisational-level behind it....AND the reaction I get when I question, in this case, the veracity/authenticity of some of the 'reportage'.

I haven't had a response from the 'journalist' in question at this stage : (

Also, tho it probably means nothing, there's no mention of the alleged perpetrator, Jonathan Jirikovec in the Williamson County Jail records at this time (don't take my word for this - http://judicialrecords.wilco.org/Jailin ... spx?ID=400)

Whatever whatever - just saying, keep a watchful eye on how you react to this kind of 'story'....it's entirely possible that even if not completely made up, which it clearly isn't, that less sinister explanations exist that do not get mentioned.....which i find all the more sinister, if that is the case.

I firmly believe in freedom of speech and the 1st amendment...but political propagandised, agendised lying....well...any thinking person has a problem with that, no?
