4 brilliant films sir - personal favourite amongst them have to be 'The Verdict', but tough choice - Jagged Edge was fantastic and has been much copied since (the mechanisms, in any event) and ahhhh....My Cousin Vinny....with the obvious exception of Raging Bull and Goodfellas (ok ok and Casino...at a pinch....erm....and maybe Lethal Weapon 2), has Joe Pesci been better?

It seems I am almost completely alone in wondering how in the hell a steaming freshly laid turd like 'Con Air' ever even got past the pitch stage, never mind made into a film, never mind made into a film with a cast any director would happily slay his family for.

Am I?

Can it be so, amongst such learned and well informed company!?

Sooooooo many people involved who should have known better - fine, Cage will do anything, and there's plenty of proof out there - he's reminiscent of a young Michael Caine for me - there's a gem of greatness in him, but a whole pile of serious excrement mixed in. John Cusack on the other hand....cmon man, seriousy WTF? Steve Buscemi has likewise displayed some 'odd' choices, but Con Air....for heaven's sake man, really?

Con Air makes 'The Rock' (do NOT get me started) look like a Laurence Olivier production of Hamlet - it's almost (and in mind should be) a crime that such insipid formulaic over-priced diarohea is made, while genuinely great pieces of work/ideas will never see the light of day.

any movie where Mr Jon Malkovich acts is worthy of my attention, that being said i wouldn't consider Con Air a good action movie, just a good "entertainment" movie, one of my favorites is Braveheart.... if it fits as an action movie

btw i don't know if it's been posted or not, but in my opinion "The Assignment" (1997) is a master piece, i just love that movie.
Starring: Aidan Quinn, Donald Sutherland, Ben Kingsley

Synopsis

Jack Shaw (Donald Sutherland) has experienced the terror first-hand. He's a top CIA agent who's tracked international killer-for-hire Carlos 'The Jackal' Sanchez for over twenty years and barely survived Carlos' devastating bombing of a Parisian cafe. Now, he finally gets a break when he discovers Carlos' dead ringer: American naval officer and dedicated family man Annibal Ramirez (Aidan Quinn). With the aid of his Israeli Intelligence counterpart, Amos (Ben Kingsley), Jack trains Annibal to impersonate Carlos through a series of harrowing physical and psychological exercises and draw the real killer out of hiding and into an elaborate trap. (It's a copy-paste, i'm a bit lazy hahaha)

Hightly recommend it guys.

Couldn't agree more. Con-Air would have been a perfect setting for the likes of Stallone, Vin Diesel, Seagal and all the other action-movie twits, but Malkovich and Buscemi - even Cage (at the time)?!?

Nicholas Cage is almost as bad as Robert Deniro when it comes to selling out. The guy has starred in three of my Top 10 favorite movies; and five of the worst.

Speaking of Deniro, why all the money-grab movie roles?!? The guy used to be one of the all-time greats - now, err. He should have cash to spare - no need for Meet the Fockers 1, 2 and now 3.

I can take or leave Malkovich - I don't think he was ever better than when in the film bearing his name, of course Dangerous Liasons....hmmm...Of Mice and Men......Beowulf......actually sod it....I reckon I do like him....and in time maybe (maybe) I'll be able to forgive his truly truly awful Russian accent in 'Rounders'.....but for Con Air I'm afraid there will be no statute of limitations....dire tripe....!!

Nice one on the recommendation (The Assignment) - not seen yet, but will get back to you shortly!
