hello...ive been reading quite a bit up on the EU....just had a quick question if i am understanding this properly...is it true that since France and Spain are part of the EU neither country needs a passport to travel to back and forth? this basically makes you guys borderless? just wanted someone to clarify that for me

There are no border checks between countries in the European union. So to travel back and forth you dont need a passport no.

You still need to be able to identify yourself in most European countries though.

wow...thats really interesting. I have also been doing quite a bit of research about the growth of the EU. Several sources show that the EU is the #1 economy GDP wise in the world, bumping down the US to #2. There are still sources that show the U.S. being #1. I wonder how this will effect the US if the EU keeps growing economically?

Everywhere except Ireland and Britain, we did not sign whatever treaty decided this and you need a passport for these.
You used to be able to travel between Ireland/UK with just an id, not a passport, and while you can still in theory legally can in practice you need a passport

Everywhere except Ireland and Britain, we did not sign whatever treaty decided this and you need a passport for these.
You used to be able to travel between Ireland/UK with just an id, not a passport, and while you can still in theory legally can in practice you need a passport

you guys are always the exception ...why you keep driving on the left for God's sake???

btw Slicer, no need for the passport, with your ID is enough, only non- eropean citizens need their passport to travel around Europe

well...from my information i see that the Republic of Ireland is part of the EU, so you must live in Northern Ireland? I have a buddy who is from Courtown....by the way coke i told you quite some time back that the company i work for; the factory is in Monaghan which i dont think is too far from Dublin i think they are about 100km away from each other.

Ireland is indeed part of the EU, as is Northern Ireland, since it belongs to the UK, which is part of the EU.

However, the EU is just a political and economical union between 27 countries. There are several treaties which may or may not be signed by all countries regarding different subjects. One of those is free travelling in the area. That is a treaty that is signed by 22 member states, plus Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. Ireland nor the UK signed this 'Schengen agreement'.

Yes Ireland and the UK are both part of the EU, bit we did not sign the 'Schengen agreement' at tom said.
However we are by law allowed to travel between UK and Ireland without a passport, but you do actually need a passport.
Travelling to other EU destinations yes we need a passport.
And yes Monaghan is around 100 km from Dublin, and no I am from Dublin not Northern Ireland

and also why britain (and i think denmark) don't have the euro. its strange that that small bit of water between us and the mainland causes so much opinion. but to be honest its rendered us extremely difficult to conquer over the years!

where do you live coke? I went to dublin in march, my dad and family are from mayo. In dublin we went for a drink by the main court in dublin. i think its quite new and cost €280 million or something like that. anyway, they overlooked putting in car parking or secure prisoner transfer areas, so its basically a huge waste of money. shows how countires can go dodgy wasting money like that!
