PREVIEW: Top Spin 4

Postby Cro Morgan » Wed, 08 Sep 2010 01:58

From IGN.

"Top Spin 4's gameplay is taking a slightly different approach than in previous years. For starters, there is now a three-tiered meter underneath your player that builds as you wind up for a shot. The more the meter builds, the harder and more accurate your shot will be. Of course, the pace and placement is also dependent on your ability to release the shot button (A for flat spin, B for top spin, X for slice and Y for lob) at the proper time in the animation. Failing to do so will yield a limp return and an easy put-away for your opponent."

if you're feeling daring you can always hold the right trigger during one of your shots to go for a risk shot or hold the left trigger to hit an inside out forehand or backhand. These different modifiers up the difficulty of the shot but can really help you get back in a point if you're scrambling.

The left trigger no longer has the "close to the line" effect? Can't wait for TS4, hopefully we'll se a demo this year.

Tell Rob and Anil should be happy to hear it :), they loved inside out shots ;)

This addition alone is great. If there will be a button that will allow to force inside-out shot then you could really build a whole new level of strategy and hide your weakness better....as well as exposing/attacking opponents weak wing. It TS3, it is very hard to run over and hit forehands, even if you a little bit off the AI automatically locks in to hit BH.

the one and big thing i hope for on this game is you must take chances to hit winners....i dont want to see 32 winners to 2 unforced it needs to be more evened out like 32 winners to 35 unforced

Indeed. I hope for much more outs then there is now. I hope there is an element of the risk even on the safest shot. I hope for net cords and framed shots, I hope that changing the direction of the power shot is extremely difficult and risky, I hope that down the line shots are twice as hard and risky to execute.

I also hope that Top spin varies and has its own value....so we can create power players and players that have tremendous speed.

I hope there will not be a serve animation C

 Well, honestly....I think "we" (ITST) are the only ones with "expectations" Rest of the Market saw TS3 as a commercial failure. They didn't sell enough and controls where found to be very complicated to appeal to a greater audience. But you right. There WILL BE disappointments, they are always there.

I just hope that "easier controls" wont mean "less depth" then TS3.

Ok, i agree it would be cool but hawk-eye doesn't make any sense in a videogame, that would mean that the system fails randomly, a complete chaos in my opinion, besides i´m completely sure some gamers would find a way to cheat using the hawk-eye, don't doubt it for a second
and about the foot faults.......no comments hahahahaha, realism is good but if i have to control my feet when serving then i quit
