ohh pretty good....just kids and work and more kids and more work...just thought id stop by....i didnt know he had a serious injury...man...knee injury? i thought he just retired from being tired...dang that sux...he was rising in the rankings then boom an injury--ill look up on google what happened...now i feel like idiot for asking ---its just a pulled hammy i dont think it came detatched from the bone though....

Yeah.....he said he stretched his hamstring on one of the returns early in second set and he heard "cracks". Called a trainer a few times....but he was visibly unstable while moving. He never retired in a match before....this is the first time. He was not injured before either....so he definitely doesn't know how to play hurt.

Its a learning experience...... I just hope that it is nothing serious, just some minor injury that affected his head more then his body.

yea....hamstring injuries suck though....they take a long time to heal from....im sure he will be fine...at least he didnt pull a djokovic though...ive really learned to like this kid gulbis and i wanted him to go far this year in RG---but one thing i noticed is he moves funny on clay...hes always falling backwards when he hits his forehands

Gulbis faces race to be ready for Wimbledon May 25, 2010
An MRI has shown Ernests Gulbis has a hamstring tear, reports The Globe and Mail. The injury is expected to require three weeks' rest, which means the Latvian will miss Queen's and could face a tight race against time to be ready for Wimbledon.

Gulbis, who had to retire in his first-round match at the French Open because of the injury, was expected to be dangerous during the two European slams after an impressive showing during the spring clay events.

losing against the nearly 40-year old japanese housewife... wow Safina, RESPECT !


Out on Suzanna Lenglen Court, two-time finalist (2008 and 2009) Dinara Safina suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Japanese veteran Kimiko Date Krumm 6-3, 4-6, 5-7.

The mentally brittle Safina double-faulted her way to a first round exit, her 17 double faults only one shy of the record here (18 by Elena Dementieva). The No9-seeded Russian led by a set and two service breaks but let her nerves get the better of her yet again, handing the second set to Date Krumm with four consecutive unforced errors including a double fault on set point.

Date Krumm, playing with a bandaged lower right leg, but scurrying courageously after every ball, trailed 1-4 in the final set, and called for the trainer’s assistance at 2-4. She limped her way to hold serve 3-4 and threaded a backhand winner down-the-line to bring up a break point on the shaky Safina serve before the Russian double faulted to level the score at 4-4.

The now-screaming Safina imploded over the next few games. She hit a wild forehand out to give Date Krumm a 6-5 lead, before hitting a swag of unforced errors on serve (including a forehand and backhand metres over the baseline) to hand her opponent the victory. Date Krumm hit a massive 37 winners enroute to her sensational victory.

“You know, I am for sure I will not give up,” said the Russian who has split with her coach Zeljko Krajan. “You know, I will have to swallow this loss and keep on moving. I mean, there is nothing more than this, you know.

“I was in the worst situations, and I mean, that's life. After rain, always sun comes. I will do my best.”

39-year-old Date Krumm, ranked No.72, is now the second oldest player in the Open Era to win a match at Roland Garros since Virginia Wade in 1985. Spurred on by her husband, German race car driver Michael Krumm, she returned to the tour in 2009 after a 12-year retirement. She has not played here since 1996, her best result being a semi final finish in 1995. When asked if she remembered the last time she beat a top 10 player, she replied with a chuckle: “1996. That time, the Championships in Madison Square Garden in New York. I beat Monica Seles in the first round. She retire.”

but any Top 20 player should win against a nearly 40-year old woman, who was 12 years in retirement.

I mean the former world's No 1 and current top ten player being beaten by a player who had been retired for 12 years from the sport? who was also hampered by an ankle injury.
No matter which way you look at it, that should not be happening. No way you can come up with a solid excuse for losing to a near 40 year old, especially after being a set and a break up.
Safina is a serious headcase with no serve and no Plan B. No other explanation.

I watched the match and I must say both players played good for most part. Kimiko was more consistent and is a real fighter but you could see that safina if she played consistent and at her level would get through without too much hassle but she just stuffs up. Seriously last game was the most embarrassing game I've seen played, kimiko is practically limping can't move safina double faults and makes 3 really bad errors, just shite

Also I think we get too caught up in age to be honest. I mean if someone stays fit mentally and physically no reason why they can't play great tennis in late 20's and 30's it's just that most players have been playing tennis soooo much for sooo long that they are bound to get burnt out and that is main factor and of course the more physical players won't be able to play for as long ie nadal unless they adapt there game to be less physically stressful.

I'm watching Soderling-Dent at the moment...whats up with Dent? He just keeps slicing his backhand over and over. So boring and non-effective. Maybe that's why he's down 6-0, 6-1, 2-1...
