Hey Bloufo, don´t get me wrong man, but can you tell us if, in your opinion, your country is ready to hold the World Cup, all we hear here is.....no hotels for everyone, insecurity on the street..., but i trust more you than the **** media.

okay ,this goalkeeper thing is a long story but i try to hold it short .
in germany we have actuelle really alot of good goalkeepers .
after oliver kahn and jens lehman ended his goalkeeper cariere ,we had a fight between RENE ADLER and MANUEL NEUER and outsider TIM WIESE .
you must know that MANUEL NEUER had a unlucky long injuring in past so RENE ADLER won this competition and played the qualifikation for the WC.
he played very well in the qualifikation ,so jogi löw (our DFB coach decided to trust him as number 1 in WC ) -never change a winning keeper .so ADLER become nr 1 for the WC .
now its different coz ADLLER broke his corrugate (ripps) a few weeks in past
thats life -
now normally NEUER looks like our number 1 second is TIM WIESE (werder bremen)

interresting is that jogi löw nominated now JÖRG BUTT (BAYERN MÜNCHEN)as keeper instead from RENE ADLER .
hes the keeper with the most experiences from all keepers- and like you said NEUER makes a few mistakes in past (no big mistakes at all )
but every mistake counts as keeper -coz mistake means a goal for the other team
it will interrest to see what jogi löw make now .
it decides between NEUER and BUTT
NEUER the young gun or JÖRG BUTT as most experienced keeper
i vote for MANUEL NEUER and at all it looks that MANUEL NEUER is now our number 1
TRUST ME -MANUEL NEUER is a extra ordinar good skilled keeper !!
i follow his carriere now over years - he have a big carriere in front .

mean MAN U , BAYERN and alot other topteams will buy him - this says all !!

The media as always does tend to blow things somewhat out of proportion. Although I would say that there are some areas of definite concern.

Contrary to what you might have read, accommodation facilities are all in place and I don't foresee problems there. Everywhere I'm looking (I'm based in the Johannesburg area) there are new hotels being built (they are now almost completed) and from what I've read from the other major centres- Cape Town, Durban etc - they also have a firm handle on this issue.

Regarding the crime, yeah sometimes it does get pretty bad over here but measures have been put in place that I'm sure we will see a safe World Cup.
I mean here they're talking of fighter jets doing air sweeps around the various stadia and player facilities, extra border patrols to secure any illegals coming in from neighbouring countries(a large proportion of our crime problem is directly related to especially foreigners from Zimbabwe and Mozambique), and extra and very visible police personnel patroling the various areas. So I think were going to be pretty well covered there.

The electricity issue though might be a tricky one.
We have a definite lack of power stations to supply adequate electricity with no power cuts. This has been a problem in the recent past(all to do with the current government who in all their wisdom  have mainly neglected generator capacity) and we all have currently been warned/alerted that during the WC we must use electricity sparingly because of the high electricity demand during the WC, and the fact that here now it's winter time so electricity usage tends to increase quite substantially during the colder months.
BUT, I've heard that in the 10 stadia themselves, that huge power generators are being installed to prevent any possible problems in that regard.
Hopefully Eskom (the power utility supplier) can manage to provide sufficient and uninterupted electricity during the WC, but as I say, that's an area of some concern.

The players that matter (in my opinion, anyway) you guys have probably heard about already.

Benni McCarthy is our most experienced and proven goal scorer. With him though you're also getting a hothead who has various discipline problems and at the moment looks completely out of shape.
He also tends to pick and choose when he wants to play for the national team. So definately a player that can score goals but also one with disciplinary issues.

Steven Pienaar is our most versatile and talented player. He plays for Everton in the english premiership, and is definately a very skilled and tricky midfielder that can provide assists and open up a game when needed.
In my opinion this is the player we're going to depend on if we're to achieve anything at all.

Aaron Mokoena our most capped international has also had quite substantial experience in the english premiership with Blackburn. He can play in defense as well as in a holding midfield role. Good value player.

- Teko Modise, our PSL 2008 and '09 footballer of the year, is now a constant in the national side. Can be a dangerous winger when in form and one that we we will also rely on.

The rest are nothing to write home about, to be honest.

-The defender- Matthew Booth, even at age 33, is a solid enough guy but the others around him are very dodgy and unreliable, to say the least. So expect us to leak goals. That will be no surprise at all.
-Katlego Mphela is ok, I guess, as a striker. He's still improving and is known for scoring long range goals. Could deliver for us in this WC, but on a consistent basis, I still have my doubts about him.
- Siyabonga Nomvethe is the other striker with international experience. He's also had some (very limited) game time in the Italian Serie A, but again, not the type of guy any national team can rely on for a decent amount of goals.
- Bernard Parker has a few goals at international level and he is the youngest in our forward line so he will still show more improvement, I think. But again, outside of McCarthy, we just do not have another top class proven goal scorer.

The rest, GOA, are pretty much not really worth bothering about.

Our coach- Carlos Alberto Parreira, seems to think that we're going to give a good account of ourselves and make it somewhat difficult for other teams to turn us over.
This is what he had to say:

"This is the best bunch of players I have ever had to work with including Brazil. These guys are motivated, hard working, committed and are determined to do well. Believe me we are going to cause surprises at the World Cup."

To me that's just total BS given the 'quality' of player in the Bafana Bafana squad.
Parreira is either delusional or just saying what the general public want to hear.

One other thing you guys might not be aware of,
is that our players have been promised one million ZAR (that works out to about $125000) for each goal that they are able to score.
The powers that be probably think that our players need this type of monetary incentive otherwise they won't score.

about electric- in that case the press say the trueth in germany- thats exactly what i heared (about generators and electric problems in generell coz winter ) from this south african Electronic concern -
and about safeness - its like everywhere in world . when you go in night in wrong place you got problems . thats the case in USA same than jamaica or france or germany or japan .
i think at all the WC is safe .

thanks for the information about your team - i can find alot of news there !!
its like i said earlier -i really hope south africa s bafana bafana comes deep into the tournament !!
i can´t wait till the WC is starting - thats the biggest event for a football fan with the national team
first the biggest event in clubfootball (CL-luckywise with my club ) and short behind that event .the WC is starting
can´t wait that WC IS starting -that is so awesome
it starts less than 4 weeks !!

BTW: i sayed that i can´t wait till WC is starting?? :D

On paper, teams that have little chance of winning but could win (surprise a ton of people). Who would these teams be?

Are you planning to bet? ;)
In fact,i say that there is no big N°1 favorite for this World Cup...
Spain are touched by injuries (Torres,Iniesta,...Senna is not selectionned...),Italia is not the same team (defense),England has no goal keeper (and it's vital for a WC),Brasil is far from their "cultural way of playing" (Thx Dunga, the coach),Argentina is in big doubts (Messi has never been really great yet with its national team, and we don't know what Maradona will do)...
I really hardly see big absolute favorites...
But,to answer you,I would say :
Ivory Coast,Germany,France,Portugal,Netherlands,England (if we can put them in that upset categories...They're strong this year!)...Maybe Serbia can do something...
It's very hard cause the group phase is really important : to avoid big teams after that phase group (to qualify to the round 16...where it's direct elimination matchs)
But also know that Italia,in the 82 WC in Spain, won the title after 3 draws in that important phase group! (Thx to ONE player : Paolo Rossi...Who was just coming back from a 2 years ban for some treachery in calcio    )
1982 WC in Spain
-Final (11-07-1982) ITALIA 3 - 1 R.F.A.
-Semi-finales (08-07-1982) ITALIA 2 - 0 POLAND
-1/4 (05-07-1982) ITALIA 3 - 2 BRASIL
-R16 (29-06-1982) ITALIA 2 - 1 ARGENTINA
-Phase group
Groupe 1 (23-06-1982) ITALIA 1 - 1 CAMEROON
Groupe 1 (18-06-1982) ITALIA 1 - 1 PERU
Groupe 1 (14-06-1982) ITALIA 0 - 0 POLAND

No bets - just a typical American resident (read: knows squat about the game) trying to school myself ahead of the World Cup.

Cro,
Oh!Ok then... :tu
Ivory coast has really a great team this year! (except for the goal keeper,i don't know who it is)
But,they are in a leathal group :

Portugal
Brasil
Ivory Coast
North Corea

June 15 : Ivory Coast/Portugal (4pm); Brasil/North Corea (8.30pm)
June 20 : Brasil/Ivory Coast (8.30pm)
June 21 : Portugal/North Corea (1.30pm)
June 25 : Portugal/Brasil (4PM) ; North Corea/Ivory Coast (4pm)

If there is a group to watch (with the one where your national team is,of course),honestly,it is this one ;)
If Ivory Coast comes out from this group, they will be a huge threat!!! (without injuries)

little chance but could win? maybe Portugal and Chile.

The truly favorites are the teams at the top of each group shown above, except South Africa, the favorite there should be France, but South Africa is the host so..

btw Cro, set in stone the following faces, the future World Champions.
Spain= La Roja (The red one)

Hey Xavi, you confirm that iniesta, xavi, and torres are injured?Or is it only "intox" (make your opponents believe you are less strong than you are)
Cause without those 3 (and without Senna) it's not the same,no?
