At the beginning of last year the ATP brought in new rules stating that all 1000's sre compulsory except Monte Carlo, since that there has been no skipping, Roddick i think was 'injured'

I wonder why they made Monte Carlo a "special case"?

For the 2009 season major changes have taken place. The Masters Series has been renamed to the “ATP World Tour Masters 1000”, with the addition of the number 1000 referring to the number of ranking points earned by the winner of each tournament. Contrary to earlier plans, the number of tournaments has not been reduced from nine to eight and the Monte Carlo Masters will remain part of the series although, unlike the other events, it will not have a mandatory player commitment. The Hamburg Masters event has been downgraded to a ATP World Tour 500 event. The Madrid Masters has moved to May and onto clay courts. A new tournament in Shanghai will replace the Hamburg Masters and take over Madrid's former indoor October slot. In 2011 six of the nine “1000” level tournaments will be combined ATP and WTA events.
Level 13 Edberg and counting...

I think the ATP Directors wanted to get rid of it but the players didn't so they came to compromise. I think i read this but i could be wrong

Everyone wanted to reduce the number of Masters events down to 8 except of course Monte Carlo, because this would mean less money for them. Monte Carlo sued the ATP over antitrust issues, and my guess is they came to the "compromise" we have now.

there's no such thing as being deserving of something. that's my opinion. The only player that 'deserves' the title is the one who goes on and actually wins it.
Ferrero may be a talented player and hard working as well, but then so are many, many others.

btw, this reminds me of that all-time great western movie quote:

"deserve's got nothing to do with it"

Never seen 'Unforgiven' (which itself is unforgivable)...I will first go whip myself silently in the corner, then stream 'Unforgiven' on Netflix.

Not now....

So rafa games first then djokovic's hopefully we see another bagel. I doubt it thought ferrero has been playing very good on clay he will prob win like 2 games in each set. Yes nadal has been playing like a god, I actually hope he is pushed though just so he gain some confidence, no?

Anyone watch interviews, I love how rafa always trys to complement his opponent and make them sound better, ie (In response to being asked if he was suprised how easy it was)"no, not so easy no, we play some tough rallies"

I think we need a new tennis player out there who speaks like federer and rafa combined you know. I would watch interviews for lols and watch the interviews become slightly puzzled, no?

yeah that's true, Rafa's got that part down to a fine art.
always coming out looking friendly and humble.
notice also sometimes going into a difficult type of match or after a loss how he in a by-the-way manner throws in a comment like "well no one plays 100% injury free all the time, no?" or "it's true my knees are a problem at this time but the opponent also played well"

when he wins he wins and when he loses he wins as well
gotta give him credit, he's always got his bases pretty well covered
