Of course that you have to look for the luck, i mean that u have to choose very well where u will serve and u need some risk return in the tie break and that your rival fail his risk returns, because all the people at least risk one of his returns in the tie breaks, obviously there are people that return better and risk better.

Maximo is an excellent returner, so he's always tough in tiebreaks.

But congrats to Petrelli, you improve more and more everytime. Lonamer & Fedfan were GREAT wins.

Much respect to both gentlemen.

thx maximo and brgerflipr for congratulation!

btw I think that tiebreak is a lottery when two players are at the same level!

but when one player is better than the anotherone(maximo is better then me),tiebreak is not a lottery...we played 3 matches in Ms...he won all three with these score: 67 67 / 67 67 / 46 67.
he has not been lucky...he is better than me...during the match he won more points and he played better on return!

The best players win more tiebreaks than they lose, so skill is a huge factor (i.e. less luck/lottery).

Fun facts...

Federer:
Year |TB's| Record
2003 | 42 | 26-17
2004 | 25 | 20-5
2005 | 39 | 28-11
2006 | 51 | 37-14
2007 | 4 | 4-0

Sampras:
Year |TB's| Record
1993 | 50 | 28-22
1994 | 35 | 27-8
1995 | 40 | 20-20
1996 | 42 | 25-17
1997 | 28 | 16-12

McEnroe:
Year |TB's| Record
1980 | 32 | 22-10
1981 | 19 | 11-8
1982 | 18 | 14-4
1983 | 22 | 13-9
1984 | 15 | 13-2

Borg:
Year |TB's| Record
1976 | 17 | 7-10
1977 | 4 | 2-2
1978 | 8 | 4-4
1979 | 19 | 12-7
1980 | 11 | 6-5

mostly the player who makes more points at all in the match -this player wins mostly the tiebreak.
only when you have two player with same skill in tie break - than its about who have more luck .

Only a few posts above we've seen the opposite 8)

andman666 wrote:I had 84 winners he 48
I had 23 errrors he 13
I had 1/2 on Breakpoints he 0/2
I had 117 total points he 100

I had 1 match point on my serve and dident take itt!
He won 7-6 3-6 7-6

Andman666 won 17 more points, a whole load more winners, but lost both tie breaks and the match.

A lot comes down to the mental game and some luck (lottery) in the tie-break in my view.

indeed in that case it was different.
have a look on it in future tiebreak matches -and you will notice that mostly (not all time) the better player (who won more points during match )win the tiebtreak.!!
when both player have the same level ,than i agree ,than its indeed a question of luck who win the tiebreak
that is what i noticed in TS3 matches .

I just had my most disappointin loss...

RLeefly (Gray) Vs Sound (Lightman)

6-3, 4-6, 7-6(5)

Most disappointing because I had many matchpoints. At 5-2 in games, matchpoint to me, he was way out off position and I had the whole open court, all I had to do was put a forehand in... it went into the net... unforced. He held to make it 5-3, then broke... Eventually we got to the tie break. Exchange of minibreaks, but I was always on the back foot.

Also, I had to chance to go 4-0 up, had break points, but he never gave up and saved them to make it 3 - 1. At well, at 5-2, I gave the match away and RLeefly took his chance.

Well played to RLeefly.

2 nd set he breaks me but i break back twice but he broke me again it was so annoying because if i held i wouldve won.
3 rd set he breaks me at 4-3 and wins it 6-3. he missed alot of serves and i couldve won if i held

Lost to Nitoflament 7-5 6-3 in Mexico MS SF.

Strange match really, first set I had bp in his first 2 service games and was feeling very comfortable, I remember thinking I'd be quite happy to go to a breaker as I was holding easier than him but he broke me at 5 all out of nowhere and that was that.

In the second I went up 2-0 only for him to go through the gears to break me twice in a row and race to victory.

The match was a little laggy for both but it was a good contest with lots of extended rallies.

Slowly but surely I feel like my level has stopped declining and maybe now I have a bit of a base to build back up from.

I had a terrible loss to JfcBpp in the first round of the BNP Paribas Open! 7-6 7-6! I was Bashmakov (NEVER AGAIN ) he was Gray. The first we both held serve very comfortably and in the tiebreak he got some good returns in. Second set was more or less the same until the tiebreak where I had a minibreak went up to the net hit a volley to the open court but it got into the net!!! We held serve until at 11-11 at a very crucial stage..I hit a double fault :(. He played very well but I had so many set points in the second, I even had 2 break points to serve for the second set. I'm beginning to have a horrible losing streak and I need to get my form back.

with all my respect , i think that bashmakov is not the best player for u, the new bashmakov only has his serve, before, with 90 power u had to win points with shorts rallies, now with 75 power is not a good baseliner, bashmy is good only if u can serve all the time on the line.

Alex def coke 6-3 5-7 6-2

1st Set- I think we started pretty even, with me perhaps winning a few more points. I got a break point at 2-2 but i hit an unforced non risk return error. At 3-3 i got another bp but he saved it with a good serve followed by a winner. In my next service game at 3-4 he got 30-40, he hit a deep topspin return and my guy missed a non risk forehand off it. He then served it out with ease.
2nd Set- I broke at 2-1 to 15 when a reasonable return made him jit an unforced error and then held to take a 4-1 lead. However at 4-2 he got a break point at the end of a really long game and took it with a powerful short crosscourt topspin forhand after a long rally in which he dominated with aggresive play. We went on serve until 5-6 when i managed to get a break point after he double faulted at 30-30. I took it when my only average return made him hit an unforced error on the run.
3rd Set- Bit of a haze. He upped his level and i didnt, i possibly went down a gear. He broke at 1-1 and again at 2-4 to secure a 6-2 set and the match.

Overall a really fun match with great rallies.

Very fun game, in the first set you were really pressuring me, winning your service games 40-love many times while I was having trouble. I knew I had to take that first break point and managed straight away luckily. The second set I felt more in control (after breaking back), much the same as you must have felt in the first set, and at 5-6 30-40 it was my turn to mess up your return.

Thats what I love in our games, we cant let ourselves get comfortable an instant because it only takes one chance at a crucial moment to lose. The first two sets were just that. The third I think House's stamina is what did the damage.
