BRITISH REACTION

The Guardian

Murray mislays spirit of daring in brutal defeat

He finished in tears, with a hole in the toe of his right shoe and tugging at cycling shorts that were annoyingly tight, but, while there are nicer ways of putting it, there is no escaping the conclusion that at key points in the final of the Australian Open Andy Murray let himself, rather than anyone else, down.

The Daily Telegraph

Federer genius too much for Murray

So, a nation's long wait came to an end in the Rod Laver Arena yesterday, with Switzerland's first Grand Slam title for six months.

The Times

Crying shame: The wait goes on after Murray succumbs to Federer

Andy Murray is probably the finest mortal tennis player on the earth. Yesterday he ran into a god. He went to the final of the Australian Open, and he took his A-game. Alas, Roger Federer also took his

Daily Express

Andy loss is a crying shame

Following two Grand Slam finals and two comprehensive losses, the uncomfortable question being asked at the Rod Laver Arena last night was whether, in Andy Murray, Britain really does have the new Tim Henman.

AUSTRALIAN REACTION

The Australian

Sweet sixteen for peerless Swiss master

(Roger Federer) was simply superb in the first two sets and again proved his fighting qualities are the equal of his extraordinary talent in overcoming a third-set deficit to clinch a thrilling tiebreaker on his third match point.

The Herald Sun

Let's roll out the Fed carpet

Roger Federer was true to his word, shrugging off Andy Murray's ambitious challenge last night to enhance a staggering grand slam record with a glorious Australian Open victory.

The Daily Telegraph

Federer crushes Murray in final

The tennis history book has become Roger Federer's personal diary and the maestro penned a new chapter with victory over Andy Murray in the Australian Open

The Courier Mail

Roger Federer's sweet sixteen

Roger Federer last night turned cold-blooded assassin to keep the generation next of tennis at bay with a fourth Australian Open final win. He was devastating in his victory over Andy Murray.

I got this from Eurosport . Thought the reactions were rather harsh from the UK press ?

Most of the British public don't really follow any tennis outside Wimbledon. It'll be forgotten quickly by most. BUT when it comes to Wimbledon, that's where the pressure really is.

Well a GS is a GS. They all knew Murray was in the finals I am sure. It must have been everywhere in the news papers?

Wow. They creamed Murray. Hey Jay . . . that is what he gets for crying?

Also, have the Brits just thought for a second for the fact that they don't have a "Roger Federer" of their own because of its media. I mean look at what they did to poor Henman.

I am far from a Murray fan. And honestly Murray has been just as cocky and Novak when he was up and coming.
So I love when he gets killed on court.

But the British press is just too much I think.

I mean Murray was in the finals. And as written somewhere Lendl had 4 GS finals to finally win his first.

By talking him down he won't get more confidence for sure.

The British press seem to be like the 'troll' of the international journalism community...they just love making people angry or making people talk, even if it's complete nonsense.

After 73 years of no slam winners, when will the British press realize it. You think that Henman on grass was worse than Moya or Ferrero on clay? Hell no. It's simply the amount of pressure the Biritsh press put on the players. When you see someone you usually is very mentally calm make some amazing volleys in the Quarters and the Semi's and than completely forget what the word attack means in the Final, you cannot simply attribute that to not being good enough at playing tennis.
Work me a boss.

Precisely, this is exactly what I said.. They cry about not having elite players, but they laugh at the face of those who are trying.
