drago's steffi

Postby beltic caldy » Thu, 15 Oct 2009 17:10

Ok, so I know I'm prone to superlatives, but played a match (Generali Ladies Linz WS R32) against Drago a couple of nights ago, that I'm still thinking about

Drago beat me pretty comfortably in MS match about a week back - 6-3, 6-4....but I was still expecting to do much better with my female char in the rematch. Couldn't have predicted what would happen.

Drago played with a Steffi character - I didn't really pay attention to her stats, but did notice a return attribute of 70, with service waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down at 40, and thought 8) happy days...

Next thing I was struggling to hold my own serve, and he was holding easily - in my second service game, I was broken to love - the very first time this has happened in the WS for me!!! By the end of the first set, I had pretty much decided there was no way I could win - apart from Drago comfortably holding serve, with me really really struggling to do likewise, he was running me around the court like a lunatic - moving me like a cat plays with a mouse :? First set to Drago, 6-4.

In the second set, with my serve broken just once, I was 4-6 and 4-5 (15-40) down - 2 match points, and somehow, somehow saved them and broke back - then went on to win the tie-break....saving a further 4 match points during that.

The final set went with serve until 5-5 when I (honestly don't know how) broke Drago's serve and (honestly don't know how either) held my own, to win the set and match 4-6, 7-6, 7-5.

In a career littered with tough, bloody, gory battles, this match stands alone as the hardest fought battle i've ever been involved in and won. I've never won a match, having saved 6, maybe 7 match points - I was very very close to actually quiting the match entirely out of sheer frustration at not being able to break a player with 40 serve - but, of course, not just any player - Drago, you are a force to be reckoned with sir, MS and WS and no doubt MSS too - thanks again for an amazing, amazing match :D    :D

What stands out to me is 67% win on second serve. You really needed to do better with 40 serve and second serve. But it is indeed very impressive by Drago to win 71% of his first serves with 40 service. I got to play Drago and see whats up with that.

I guess our match was less impressive  but it was certainly a battle and I really enjoyed it....finally, after 2-3 weeks of missing each other - we played.

Good call man, re needing to do better on his second serve - couldn't seem to manage it tho : (

Our match was most-excellent!!! The char I played - 90 return - was able to break serve several times in first set to win it 6-3, but I seemed to keep doing the same thing with return...whereas you up-geared several notches - second set was tie-break to you, and third you won quite comfortably.

And all with mid-fifties (56!!!?!?!?) backhand!!

If I could have kept returning like I did in the first set, the headline might have been otherwise....but even in that set, I couldn't help feel you hadn't turned the heat fully up - sets 2 and 3 proved me right : )

Final score: 3-6, 7-6, 6-2

Truly great match anyways man - you didn't happen to record it I suppose!!!?!

naah...sorry I didn't record it. It requires connecting a device and playing at lower resolution  I don't like that....but I can, if needed.

naw, no bother re recording - know what you mean - i'm trying to get my head around a way of playing in HD and recording at lower-res...unsure if possible - or even recording in HD....I have both a vid capture card in PC (PCI jobbie) and also a DVD Recorder...but my knowledge levels in this area are poor. Really want to get a solution sorted tho - been too many great matches that would love to be able to rewatch.

Nice one on your Roger char man - very impressive - your volley, which you seemed use sparingly (thankfully!) was lethal!!!

Gotta get a female char sorted out bro!!!!

If you connect your Xbox to your TV using the component cable (red/blue/green) then you can connect the regular composite cable (yellow) to your DVD recorder or capture card at the same time. The problem is that the Xbox will not send a signal to the composite cable when you have it set to HDTV, so you would have to play in SD.

If your TV has a video output, then you can connect that to your DVD/capture card, but most TV's don't have a video output.

If your DVD/capture card has an HD component input, then you might be able get 3 "Y" splitters to split the three component cables and send them to both your TV and DVD/capture card at the same time. I haven't tried that though, but it might work. Y splitters are cheap, so it's worth a shot.

The last option is to connect your Xbox directly to you DVD/capture card and then connect the DVD/capture card to the TV. It could cause a delay in the signal being sent to your TV though, and that would make it nearly impossible to play.

Thx for your kind words man! It was really a tough fight.

It was my second hardest fight since start ITST. The hardest was against Moralspain at the French Open this year, 3-6 4-6 7-6 7-6 7-6, i didn t break him once, but won the match with much luck.

You fought great Beltic! It was not my fault you won the match, it was your own power! When you was down 4-6 4-5 15-40, you hit many great shots and got my.

So it was a very deserved victory for you!
