no. too many other guys out there that beat him consistently.

All of these polls went up for Nole after he won the Aussie, too. And look what he's done since. Also Andy Roddick is the other one slam wonder. (though he was once #1, that's because Fed/Nadal/Mutant/Nole weren't playing yet)

So until Delpo backs up his performance, I'm skeptical.

Andy Roddick isnt really a one slam wonder

He has been beaten by the same person in 4 other grandslam finals. That one person has won 15 grandslams. Roddick could easily have 5 grand slam titles if it wasnt for the G.O.A.T

Del Potro has what it takes , but he has to dominate all surfaces not just one .

When he can start beating Roger , Nadal and everyone else on all surfaces and all altitudes and climates then he will be number 1

Only time will tell, but beating both Fed and Nadal on your way to your first ever Grand Slam title is a great start. :)

Like venom alluded to, Federer, Nadal, and the rest of the top guys aren't going anywhere anytime soon, and if Del Potro wants to get to #1, he's gonna have to keep going through those guys on the big stage and on different surfaces.

i think hes not constant enough at moment to dominate the tour as nr.1

possible is all .
i will wait to see his next results in next tournamemts.
generelly i think he have no chance to reach nr 1 in nearly time

he is constant enough, imo. he only dislikes is grass season but that can be fixed. i am pretty sure he will be number one soon, i regret not voting next year becasue i deffinitly think he can be number one next year.

as long as Roger Federer is playing tennis, there is absolutely no way on earth Delpo would ever be #1 next year. Fed consistently makes the finals of 85% of the tournaments he plays. Delpo is nowhere near that.

maybe the us open win will give him an extra motivations kick to reach number 1.

but i agree with nick.as long federer played its hard to reach nr1.
also there are nadal murray djorkovic where have better chances as del potro to got nr 1

let us see what happens.....maybe del potro can surprise us

Next year, unless Nadal is injured again, I see a BIG 2, not a big 4.

Murray, Djoko and Delpo will be fighting for #3 spot.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, DelPotro has had an amazing achievement but becoming No.1 takes a completely different skill set, also let's see how he copes next year as being expected to win rather than just having a great chance.

Next year should be interesting yet again with Nadals fitness, Murrays tactics and Djokovics mindset all in the mix. Also I'm going to be very interested to see what sort of schedule Federer plays next year, he might take his self out of the hunt for No.1 if he decides to only play the majors and the masters series.

To be #1 in ATP you have to perform well and win 1 GS AND play well at smaller tourneys. Otherwise you simply won't have enough points.

Rafa dominate the courts clay and roger the grass, the hard courts dont have one player that won every titles in this court.
Juan martin need improve in all surfaces. i think that while Rafa and Roger continue playing is very hard, to limit of the imposible

Can we not do this every time somebody besides Roger or Rafa wins a major? It's a little naive to think that JM Del Potro is just going to shoot up to #1 soon, because he won the US Open.
