But I think there are a few things about tennis that make it different:
The equipment has changed so much since many of the greats played.
The whole 'Pre-open Era'/'Open Era' thing.
And lets face it, until fairly recent history, tennis players just weren't on the same level as athletes in other sports.
Very few boxing fans in places like eastsideboxing.com say Tyson is the greatest and some don't have him at top t\10. Also, among the more knowledgeable boxing public Joe Louis follows closely behind Ali and sometimes beats him in polls.
Tyson is massively overrated in my view and a mass of fans agree though I would like to see a more general poll sometime where it isn't on say a boxing forum but instead something like.. i dunno. bbc.co.uk maybe.
EDIT: Taking what you say absolutely literally it is absolutely true that some people will call Tyson the greatest, just in my experience not as many as who will say Foreman, Marciano, Louis or even Lewis.
