Ok guys I just fiinished reading the whole thread.. Well I can say about myself that I LOVE to make the slice out serve, almost every single time.... but here is why:

1st) It helps me win points on my serve
2nd) In REAL tennis is exactly the same, just ask Roger when Nadal serves with slice out wide in the advantage side? Or ask Nadal when Nole serves out wide in the deuce side?
3rd) If the othe rplayer keeps struggling with returning my serve that way, I will keep doing it more often because its working.

Now, the issue here is that not EVERY player has problems returning wide slice services, and that is when I start to mix it up much more. I position myself still wide but serve to the T, then slice it out wide, but mixing it up, because I know it isnt working.

To make things short, if it works for me I will keep doing it, if it doesnt then I will have to adapt. I have played against several players from ITST and the wide sliced service doesnt work to much against the best players, they leave me without that weapon; so that means it has a counter measure only that most of us dont know how to use it. The day everybody knows how to perfectly return a wide out sliced service, then I will have to figure something else that complicates them more than me :P

I agree with you guys actually, though I haven't really completely figured out how to counter the outwide slice myself yet. On the other hand, let me take the example one step further. Let me know your thoughts on this hypothetical situation.

Say there is a table tennis game, and it's a really awesome game except for one thing. Really good players know how to have the ball hit the net and drop just barely on the other side every single time, and the way the game is set up, it is impossible to return this shot no matter what you do. So basically your opponent has a guaranteed winner every single time no matter what you do.

Is this shot cheesy? Is it an exploit? Should it be banned? Please, I want to hear your thoughts.

Well, I would think that a shot that is really impossible to return by any means like the one you just set as an example must really be taken into consideration as to be fixed or banned or anything similar, and that is because there is no counter strategy for that.

Great! I would completely agree still.

But what now if, almost the same situation, the shot could be countered, but only if you guessed the right side of the table the shot was going to, and started moving your player all the way up that side immediately after your shot (so before your opponent hits). And then all your opponent has to do is hit that same shot to the other side of the table or hit a normal shot and you are toast.

Thanks for this example :)

Anyway, I'd like to apologize for taking this whole thing too seriously.
I'm stressed these days.

By the way, if you guys are allowed to use this wide out slice serve without even feeling guilty, why should'nt use my special ability : drop shot master in return ?

Mmmmm great question this one, there is no other option for the returning player to do after he hits his return?

I am asking because as a wide slice server myself I find some players return the ball so well or so deep that they leave me with no option and then I just have to keep the ball in play and the rally starts, with no winning shot after the return... or after the return of the return of the return of the return.. ;)

Well at least I think you get what I'm hinting at with that example :) I am trying to make the situation as simple as possible, so no the only option to return this "cheap shot" would be to guess like I described.

Anyways, yes some of the better players are really good at returning and don't let you get on the offensive after you serve, but that's the whole point of the return. At least on the return they can't hit short slice angle winners on the line that you can't recover from :D That is, you are able to respond, just not as agressively as you'd like.

okay i think there is just no way to convince you guys to consider slice outwide serving from your very own tramlines cheesy. (wasn't it forbidden in ts3?)

so lets end this, everyone's just doing what he wants and and we "normal serve" guys gotta train harder to punish these serves :-)

Anyways to get back to topic... I always enjoy playing someone from here, thats why I joined...ITST is a fine thing!

Yes, exactly I get your point, thats why I think that while it is pretty tough for some players to return wide sliced services, for others is not that much of a problem and thats why those guys are the better players because they know how to solve problems that for many of us mortals are just impossible so they are categorized as cheesy.
