Virtua Tennis 4: I got you wrong Im sorry!

Postby AndyMurray ITST » Sun, 01 May 2011 12:33

I previously gave my impressions of Virtua Tennis 4 playing the ps3 demo, and i was not impressed at all (see previous post).
Having got the complete game I have to say that I have completely changed my mind. Ive been playing the game for hours and its so addictive. Its still fairly arcadey, but they have slowed down the rallies and have really improved the physics from Vt3. You have to train up your character first to really see this which is why the demo is awful!

charging up shots is great and player animations on hitting the ball are better than Topspin 4. Players jump into shots and look great running around forehands etc. The new super shot button is excellent aswell and you can turn off the awkward camera for this.
Online is much better too. I really recommend this game now having had a complete turn around in my opinion! :D
Graphically the xbox 360 version i think is way better. The ps3 version is less clear for some reason, more fuzzy. All in all its a great game, and only slighty inferior to the excellent TopSpin 4. If you liked Virtua Tennis 3, this game is better than that , and so much better than the awful Vt2009

your right im gonna go buy it too for xbox 360 even without playing the demo i could see the player animations were better than ts4 this something that if 2k incorporate it will take the top spin series another level above VT . also what is the net play like could upload a video of you playing that if it is not too much hassle

Bought it for the PS3 and the graphics are great, much better than the demo for sure! Either way just got it for the PS3 because of the 3 extra players...

Loving the game though, demo was crap though.

its funny I was really put off by the demo and now i cant stop playing it! The rallies are so much better than Vt3 and Vt2009. They have slowed down the ball and made positioning more important which means the rallies are shorter and really fun. Online is great too, no lag and really close games. I love Topspin 4 but I ve been playing Vt4 more at the moment.

I wish Ts4 had the dynamic shots in the air and sense of real power that Vt4 has. Ive also been fed up with the constant ridiculous angles in Top spin 4. it feels that half the time its about out angling each other. Vt4 isnt like that which i really like. The drop shots and sounds of the ball on the racquet are not good though in Vt4.

world tour mode is really addictive which i was surprised about. its normally a real slog but they've made you want to keep playing. Also its no longer too easy like Vt2009. You can play the career on hard mode now which makes it tough! :D

Yeah but the stadiums??? They r sooo poor in vt4... I think only if ts4 had the players graphics n service styles a bit of vt4(except nadal) then ts4 would have been the best game ever

Well as for the courts, I personally don't mind but the AO being on a green court is beyond stupid, we're not living in 2006...

As for the game a few things I don't like:
1. Slice seems useless
2. Same player reaction when a player wins
3. Crowd isn't really that dynamic
4. Hate when the player throws the racquet and catches it, far too often and at stupid times (like when missing a first serve).
5. Some players look poor (eg. Nadal, looks beyond skinny)
6. Umpire doesn't say the score in tie-breaks.
7. Every time a player serves (beginning of service game or has a serve in a tie-break) the umpire says "xxx to serve"
8. After every game there's an animation of both players sitting down, even after a game where there shouldn't be a changeover or rest (like 2-1 for example)

I mean most of these are minor things but still you would think some of these should have never been 'issues' in the first place, but still I'm loving the game!

My bad, I meant the game after 2-1, so when it's 2-2. Just stupid as even when play resumes the players are on the correct sides, makes no sense.

It does sound stupid and as a tennis fan, almost insulting. To me it feels like they didn't even bother to understand basic tennis rules when putting the game together. :?

World Tour is far too easy as well, but why? I mean the Very Hard difficulty in Exhibition is quite hard but in WT it doesn't exist?

That's what I'm doing and most of the matches I'm winning fairly easily.

Another issue is have you noticed the AI get ready to hit a ball and then slide back and hit it? Looks so dodgy, sometime your player does it as well.

Have no idea why I'm picking all these problems out though, I'm loving the game!

Bought the game this morning, it's kind of fun to play.

Switched the AI to very hard now which is surprisingly hard compared to VT 2009. Djokovic kicked my ass thoroughly the first few matches, untill i switched my style to all round and stormed the net at any given opportunity. Thats the only way i could win on this setting yet.^^

Did you play world tour on professional? I believe the challenges and grand slam finals might be as difficult as the regular very hard AI in exhibition mode.

has anyone been able to beat very hard Djoko from the baseline constantly yet?

I am using Nadal and I'm able to beat anyone in the baseline. Have you tried Nadal? He is a beast.

I have tried both experienced and professional, but I don't think it's that difficult because in world tour mode you can charge up super shot a lot faster than in Arcade/Exhibition. The hardest match I have is my custom female versus King (professional), which I need to use Super Shot at every points in order to win.

Nadal is giving me a hard time on professional world tour as well. I had no trouble beating anyone up until meeting him in the French Open final...

What seriously gets on my nerves is the so called "rival" Theron Tenniel, who constantly seems to be ahead of me, even though I always beat him and win every tournament he is in...
Strange..
