I really like soccer and it was the first sport I ever played (before baseball and before hockey); I played it from age 5 to 16 (I was a defender/midfielder). It's just that, here in the States, there is very little coverage of European league soccer, for whatever reason. It's very strange, because soccer is EASILY the most popular sport played by grade-school children here...EVERY little kid here plays soccer or has played soccer in a league at one point, yet there is no real support of pro soccer. We have Major League Soccer, but from what I've heard the players in MLS are nothing compared to those in Europe. To me, it has nothing to do with the game itself, cuz I think it's a beautiful sport to watch.

What's the difference between a crap team and a good team?

Near as I can figure, a good team scores a goal, maybe two if they're lucky. The crap team doesn't score any.

I have to hear that from a country that they like Baseball. The matches last like 10 hours, just to see one crappy home run. The most annoying and boring sport to see. Great to play and been in the pitch but crappy to watch.

And it really shows that you are out of your element in football( its football, not soccer, only you call it soccer) Besides the goals (there not that much in hockey also) the way they play the moves, the talent, thats whats greats about the sports.
Just say no to cheating...

Can somebody tell me if it´s true that exists a flamenco version of "you´ll never walk alone"?
Never underestimate the pain of a person, because in all honesty, everyone is struggling. Some people are just better at hiding it than others.

I was born and raised in Wales. Watched/played a lot of football as a youngster. And I still think it's a bore. Like baseball.

I know this post isn't about sports in general and is about football, but since there is a subtopic of sports in general here I want to make some comments on it. I watch a LOT of different sports whenever I can, including football. Hate to say it Cro but I think ice hockey is actually one of the most boring sports to watch, coming just ahead of baseball (yawn). Hate to say it to you Europeans as well but football is also somewhat boring for me, though less so than hockey. I do enjoy watching the tactics in football, and when a goal does arise it is usually by a brilliant exploitation of a weakness in the other team's structure, but I am with Cro where I just cannot fully enjoy a two hour form of entertainment which only has a handful of intense moments, very few of which end up affecting the outcome of the match.

Moralspain you are right when you say that football does not fit in with American culture and that is why it is not very popular here. I think you hit it right on the head when you commented on our movies. The best selling movies here are those that have intense action scenes and limited complex character development. Since movies are just another form of entertainment I think it is easy to make the step that our culture also prefers in general sports entertainment that is similar to those types of movies.

My favorite sports to watch though are pretty much all over the place when it comes to this "adrenaline-based" characterization: tennis, rugby, curling  , the connection between them is obvious though since they are all highly tactical.

To enjoy the finer points of ice hockey, you have to drink a lot, like this fan ...
