Just as I expected, great performance by Djokovic, low performance (or far from the best at all) from Federer, mainly on important moments, lots of unforced errors. I suppose he is not expecting to win RG playing like this...

I said that 2008 will be a tough year for Federer last year. I am not surprised that he lost his match at the Australian Open. Pete Sampras is going to watch Federer at the US Open 2008 to see him break the all-time grand slam record.

I do not know. Federer may stay at 12 or only have 13 grand slams (providing he wins Wimbledon again). I do not think he will win the US Open. There are better hard court players than him. If Federer does not play like the Federer we have seen about four years ago, then it is good-bye on the hard courts for him.

Yep, I saw this now too. I said 2002 because that is what I saw posted on the television when I was watching the match. Regardless, it's been a while since Federer was soundly beaten in a best of five set match. The only one who's been able to do it has been Nadal and Nalbandian, and all of those matches were always pretty tight.

Also, I was really impressed by how Djokovic handled the break points. He played some awesome serves and points to keep Federer from making a match out of it. It seemed like half or a third of his aces came on break points, which is something you usually see Federer do.

I was thinking the exact same thing. He is not still as mentally strong as Federer but its definatly improving.

I kinda reckon this loss might be a bit liberating for Federer. Now he can work on his form away from the spotlights a bit. What do you guys think?

Agreed. He had to feel like a loss was coming sooner or later, and this should motivate him. I think people are making way to big of a deal out of it. He lost 1 match to a really good player, it's not like he's going to finish #2 this year. He'll probably just only win 2 slams instead of his usual 3.

As much as I love Federer (and he IS still by far my favorite player), this COULD be the year where he relinquishes the #1 spot. Even it's for only a few weeks. I sincerely hope it doesn't happen, and I wish nothing but the best for Federer and I hope he breaks every single record in the books, but Djokovic is playing very well. I've been saying for a LONG TIME NOW that he will be the next #1.

I also have a feeling that this will be the year Federer wins the French. He's too smart to keep losing to silly one-dimensional basher Rafa...he WILL beat him.
