Borg retired at the ripe old age of 26, so the tennis pundits have little choice but to compare their careers between the ages of 17 and 25.
Another fun fact ...
According to the match scores listed on the ATP website, Borg bageled his opponents (sets won 6-0) 116 times from 1973 through 1981 (8 years) - compared to Roger Federer's 55 bagels from 1999 through the 2007 French Open (8 years).
... and Federer supposedly dominates the tour? Well, he does, just not like Borg did back in the day
in the case of borg you are right for sure. for me it sounds like, you wanted stagger federer, only coz his big career started later.
i just wanted defend federer. i've never said he is the best ever. for me it's amazing how he can dominate the tennis tour, coz today fitness and athletics are getting more and more important than ever before.
have you ever seen a player in the 60's like nadal, who often hits an incredible angular passing shot from no man's land with a balancing act?????
have you ever seen a player in the 60's like roddick, who often serves with 220-240 km'h?????
have you ever seen a player in the 60's like djokovic, who often runs for his life, and already compets to nadal's passing shots from the defense????
that's mondern tennis.
but federer is still able to stand those players and hold number one. and it's not necessary to often bagle them. i think he is a giant at all. not bigger than laver or connors at their peak, but he deserves ranging on the same level.
that's my opinion.
