I agree with didine17 that a qualification at some tournaments would make sence.
A few ideas how it could be done and why i think this makes sence:
First, strict rules for the draw.
For Exemple:
GS: 96 in main/ 32set(starts in R64)
1000: 48 in main / 16set(starts in R32)
500: 32 in main / 8set
250: 28 in main / 8set (4 starts in R16)
Challengers: 32 in main / 8set
Futures: 16 in main / 8set
If there are less signed in, it workes like currently.
But if there are more signed in, there comes a qualification (normaly one round with 2 days time window). Player with the worst ranking have to play it, like in real life.
Why this would make sence:
1. At a lot of bigger tournaments, unexperienced palyers cannot collect points so easily anymore. On the other side, if they sign in at a bigger tournament, the opponent will be probably with more simular strengh (if they have to play Quali), which leads to more motivation for weaker players.
2. Elite players get less really weak players (at their first round), which i would say is positive for both sides. The elite and weak one.
3. All because of this, the weaker player would have more matches (average) at bigger tournaments while for the elite stays the same, except that they have to deal with less weak players at their first round.
4. The ranking would be a bit more reflect the real strenght of the player (because you cannot collect so easy annymore a lot of points at big tournaments without really winning matches)
5. The ranking counts a bit more. Because with a better ranking you have to play less qualifications.
