This is the match up we have been waiting for!

The much disputed GOAT vs the TALENTWASTER, the 17 Major winner vs undefeated finalist, the father of four vs the father of potentially hundreds of bastards that will never know his name, the master of Forehands vs the flying eagle, the shank-backhander vs the way-too-many-dropshotter!

Will this be a send-off to Ms. Federer? ....or will this be an end of the road for Gulbis in RG 2014.

Either way, this match can only have one loser - Federer. If Gulbis loses it will be a 4th round exit at a major, an achievement for him, but for Federer this will be a setback and another sign that retirement is on horizon.

1-1 on Clay, the last set finished at worst a 6-4, at best at 7-5 a few years ago when Fed was perhaps at a higher level, and Gulbis less good than now.

Conclusion : I see Gulbis winning, but I voted for "Federer in 4" in the poll because a champion never dies

IF Federer wins, then in 4 sets. I can't see him win in 5 anymore no matter who is on the other side, add to that the fact that Gulbis always wins at least one set when they play and they are 5-4 in sets so far.

Chances are Gulbis will win a set, likely first. Then Fed will wake up for a bit and win the second easy. Third will be tight. Should Gulbis win the third - bye bye Fed. So Roger will have to win the third to stay alive. IF that happens - 4th set will be the decider.

I don't see Fed winning in straights. It can happen of course, but if you "proclaim" it then you a Fedfan and rather bias, and not considering the history, the fact Fed is declining and the Fact Gulbis is rising (at least at the moment, or rather last 1.5 years). Unless Gulbis's serve is completely absent - he will get a set in a loss.

It should be a tight match, I just hope it won't end up being just that - a tight match. I would love for it to be a GOOD match as well, with both players playing well.

I'm a Fed fan, but I'm cheering for Ernests this time.
Roger loss would be not so alarming, and he could spend fewmore days practicing on grass.

Plus, maybe getting again in a Grand Slam QF after 6 years will give Gulbis extra-motivations to keep staying focused on his play for the future matches and tournaments.

But Roger is still favourite, so I say Fed in 4 sets.
