You are right! Nadal would be the first to win 8 times the same GS. Federer has the récord with 7 Wimbledon (if i'm not wrong :D)

Ferrer has now a good chance, he really deserves it, but honestly i think that he don't have anything to do in a 5 setter match against Nadal

In a 3 setter match also...

Anyway, speaking about tennis before the Open Era, Max Decugis won the French Open in 1903, 1904, 1907, 1908, 1909, 1912, 1913, 1914.

In other words, he won 8 times a Grand Slam before it was mainstream 8)

Yeah, that's true, but as far as i now, when Max Decugis won the French Open, only french players could play that tournament.

Considering that we are talking about years 1905-1914, i dare to say that he was the only one who knew how to play tennis throughout France :D

Maybe, but in 1891 (first year) the French was won by a British player, H. Briggs.

As I can read, Andre Gobert won the tournament twice, in 1911 and 1920 (defeating Max Decugis himself).
Also Maurice Germot won the French Open 3 times, defeating Decugis in 1906 final (57 63 64 16 63, a hell of a match, if I remember).
And Andre Vacherot won the tournament 4 times, but before the coming of Decugis (defeated by Vacherot's brother, Marcel, in 1902).

And these are just 3 of the best tennis players in the early 20th century.
I've watched them all playing tennis.

Navratilova won WImbledon 9 times and Margaret Court won the AO 11 times so it won't be an overall Slam record. He will be moving past Chris Evert and her 7 RG wins though.

I didn't even think about female

Ferrer can win, it will be a long match, he's playing great vs rafa lately, he has a chance. I expect a great match, emotion quality rallies 8)

John you're very optimistic...
I think I'm gonna watch the 1st set (62 Nadal in 1 hour and 20 minutes), then I will get bored and do something else.

First time in a long time no "Who will win?" poll was created for a Slam final.  Few appear to be expecting a competitive match. :D

Ferrer has more than a fighting chance me thinks. :P

Cro Morgan wrote:Ferrer will face either Almagro or (a very tired and old) Robredo in the quarters. Ferrer has a winning record against both (13-0 vs Almagro, doesn't matter vs Robredo cause Ferrer will win). In the semifinals Ferrer will likely face either Tsonga or Grampa Federer. Yes, a trip to the final is a lock.

2013 Roland Garros champion? My money is on Ferrer.

Ferrer dropping the opening set, thus instilling Nadal with a false sense of confidence. Crafty fellow that Ferrer.

Ferrer is THE man when it comes to winning a match while trailing 0-2 in sets.

Nadal now supremely overconfident. Ferrer's plan: working to perfection.

Indeed.

Side note: Mary Carillo just passed Justin Gimelstob as the most annoying tennis announcer of all-time.
