People connecting from Timbuktu

Hey, sorry if this has been mentioned before but I just had a US Open match against DSL who I believe is from Puerto Rico and the lag was on the verge of unplayable the whole match.

The same thing tends to happen when I connect to anyone from the states, and even the slightest of delays has a massive effect on the pace of the match and how you time the ball. Against DSL I found myself mistiming shots, was out of position, found it hard to recover if I went the wrong way as the screen froze momentarily and even had the 'ghost' shot from the opponent several times where it appears you've hit the winner only for him to jump across the screen while you've stopped playing to cream the ball back.

I asked him after the match if he always has lag like that and he only noticed it in the 2nd set tie-break which is when the game appeared to be disconnecting and disrupted my rhythm completely.

I suppose I wanted to know if these situations can give any advantage to the opposing player? Do they experience the same lag issues as we do or is it possible they are playing a lag free game while your struggling with stuttering play? Because that's what it often feels like when you play these matches. Is there anything players can do to counterract extreme distance or is it just something we have to put up with?

It can be both tbh. You could have a lag free game while the opponent has horrible lag. I've had this be4 while playing both for and against me. Both gamers could equally experience similar lag but 1 will be worse than the other. Usually the one with the better connection/speed/upload/ping or whatever you will call it experiences it worse off.
People will say it down to both of you for lag, thats not always true although its also the distance and stuff like that aswell.

So yeah 1 can have a lag free game and 1 can have it bad. Hope you still won.

How can it be possible ?
If one player is free of lag and the other has permanent lag, the games they each see should have different rythm and speed, hasn't it ? If it's the case, their game shouldn't be anymore synchronized after a time. There should be a gap between the two games, with the one lagging being late compared to the one free of lag.
Or am I mistaken about something ?

Yeah I think it is just an issue with DSL's connection, when I play Raja Gringo, there isn't really any lag, and they are from the same place.

Its more about the persons connection than where they are from.

DSL is **** lagging, it's the worst connection I ever played against in both WT and ITST tour.

Against me he lost approximately 4 times the connexion in 2 matches, and 7 seven sets... A nightmare to play against :/

No Tamthewasp I didn't win the match, lost in straight sets, felt like quitting on several occasions as matches like that are a futile and unenjoyable process.

Rajagringo I have also had similar problems with connection although I'm not sure they were quite as bad, but I remember having the same sort of slowed down and stuttered version of the game with him and it feels as though players like that are somehow immune to the lag, its horrible.

It's hard to believe that one player can be lagging and the other not as someone has already mentioned, how could they still be synced up and playing the same point? Surely that's when the connection would cut out? Perhaps that's why we get that ghost effect where the player seems to transport across the court to get the ball as if their connection is playing catch-up.

I don't think players like that should be removed from the tour as everyone has the right to play this game but it does seem like an unfair advantage that is probably gaining them a few extra victories.

So for example the ghost shot.

You think you hit a winner and all of a sudden your opponent bounces across screen an hits the ball. On your screen this happens instantly but on there screen they are playing smooth.

When the game plays slow for you, its lag comp

I've played against DSL and Rajagringo and the connection was perfect. In my opinion if there is lag in the match, that match shouldnt be played... The matches I lost is for lag problems and I really think that it is an advantage to my opponent because shots I do playing without lag are winners but playing with lag my opponent teleport and hit a supermegaperfect shot and my face is like that  and then

In other words.. u think i won 6-2 7-6 6-2 because of the lag? man the only lag that appears in the match was the tie break ... Yes sometimes i have connection issues but the lag is the same for both of us.. if my player teleports, yours 2 , is the same pace for both and i hate to lag and all that sh&^ because i don't like playing with that stupid thing... But seriously the connection got scary in the tie breaker.. nothing more.. because it is imposible that u lag and i don't when ''my'' connection is the one that is laggi... i am sorry for the lag and all because i don't think that is fair but still i can win, i just don't want people to think that i won u because of that because it is not like that... i am sorry jaybe
